I think you are probably making the right choice. I started out with this kit https://www.weldequip.com/oxy-propane-brazing.htm

Download the Tim Paterek manual and read it over and over until you hate him. Your first 10 frames will probably be scrap if you don't. Do lots of test brazing (braze a lug and cut it open to make sure the brass/silver has completely flowed through) be sure of this before you ride anything you build or you will probably die. Lugs and BB shell's can be bent about a bit and made to work. The key to good framebuilding is making what you have work.
*Just my opinion. Feel free to ignore

Yeah, I look pretty chilled here! I think that's why this picture was taken.
Erm....this is just how I do it! As long as you control the temperature and don't overheat anything, it's cool. The flux should be a nice grey colour after with no (or minimal) black bits (burnt flux). Takes practice to get the brass to penetrate nicely without cooking the joint.
I use oxy-acetylene and didn't really get along with oxy-propane. A lot of very good builders use propane though and it's a lot cheaper and easier to get than acetylene!

Here is a picture of me looking as council as I actually am. I build frames under the name "Staal". I also share a workshop with my mate Geoff Roberts, who trained me. We have recently bought a fuck ton of tubing and other bits and bobs so give me a shout if you need a nice set of tubing (loads of stainless) or some crappy practice stuff.

I've got an old John Spooner ( http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/builders/spooner-cb.html ) made from Columbus Alle. I was told when I bought it that the seat post, stem and crank were stuck. I think they could be shifted pretty easy as its not mega rusty or shagged. Probably a good soak of WD40 over 24 hrs and access to a vice would sort it but I really can't be arsed as its miles to big for me.
I'm told Michaels Cycles in Worthing (Johns old shop) still have a book with the info regarding each frame John built.
If you can be more bothered with it than me, £50 will take it.

I like the Alpkit stuff and have the Koala saddle bag. I hardly use it but I'm not sure about selling....I'll have a think and let you know! I use one of their cheap double ended dry bags as a bar bag.
The "Salsa anything" cage is worth a look as well.
I really recommend DD TARPS if you are looking for a lightweight camping option.

Due to company expansion there are a few new jobs going where I work. Probably a bit far out for most of you guys but I thought I would put it up here anyway.

Sorry for the late reply!
We will be starting production of our Carbon frames in our Greater London/Surrey factory within the next two months. We will also be producing steel bikes here in the very near future too :)
We are going to have a open day in the coming months and it would be great if some of you guys could attend (there should be free beer!).

Hi,
I am a long time lfgss member and have recently started working for a company called Aprire based in Cheam, Greater London.
We do aluminium and carbon road bikes and framesets but we also do re-sprays. I have spoke with the company owner and he is happy to offer a 10% discount on all bikes, frames and paint jobs to lfgss members.
Just drop me a line on here and I'll sort out you out a demo bike or a discount code.
Cheers
Mark

Ask Geoff Roberts, he might be up for the challenge!
