Was rolling on 52/17 for a time last year, which was fantastic for doing 35 down Archway Road, but was gradually killing my knees in start/stop Central London all day. On 44/16 now, definitely felt spinny to start with but feels perfect now. Can just about hulk it up to Highgate Village if needs be, but might have to walk it up the last bit of Ditchling..

I bought these a while back, and before I managed to fit them lost various screws and pieces of plastic essential to making sure they actually stayed on the bike. The mudguards are there, as are three of the four sections of v-shaped wire metal that secure them to the frame, not attached to the mudguards.
I also have a plastic bag full of the remaining screws etc if anyone wants to try their luck.
Collection from Manor House-y end of N15.

Morning all, a friend of mine is returning to the streets of Central London and is looking for a beater-grade bike to do it on. He has the use of a stone age raleigh with 27 1/4 wheels, but considers it a bit cheeky to be using a loaned bike (he'll be couriering, so something in a decent state of repair would be better to save on maintenance hours). It doesn't actually need pedals (or decent pedals anyway), as he'll be putting a pair of m520s or similar on himself. I've had a look across the classified pages, but everything I've found posted recently is a bit too nice or the wrong size, so if anyone has something stashed away..
Frame would be 56cm, budget would be up to about 200. He was taking about splurging 250 on a basic new bike, so maybe if the right thing appeared he would be up for stretching the budget a bit further.
So, show us your wares :)
Many thanks,
N
