do you need axle and bearings? mine has allen bolts and bearing cover caps, its pretty light. you can get a compatible threaded axle from CRC for £4

have a new tall one, there should be a UK source. earliest I can send it is wednesday from Ireland if that suits and you dont get sorted before then

the correct tension should be acheived without tyre inflated, not sure of the values but maybe its 10%less when inflated. dont add extra, use the max values for tyreless

Im not really sure its a good idea to do this tho, 16 holes will require very high tension, spoke holes arent simplty drilled, theres extra forging work usually done to them.

I think only the 7600 hubs were spun,
perhaps Suzue and Sansin also.

While Shimano (as other Japanese premiere vendors) are big on cold forging their high end hubs tend to NOT be cold forged but spun. Our favorite NJS Dura Ace 7600 and **7710 **track hubs are good examples. With a probable few exceptions--- such as the Campagnolo C-Record--- most all NJS certified hubs, I think, were spun.

Spinning results in stronger more failure resistant hubs.

Shimano hubs are all forged. some hubs are forged and cnc'd but its a different forging process.

the thickness of the flanges and how much material is above the spoke holes is a factor in radial spoke lacing. also the spoke holes themselves, some are drilled, others are cold forged/'coined'
