ha! this thread is ace, I've become properly sucked in, as a result I:
have been inspired to travel round with my camera now as my phone camera is so shite it only takes pics on a par with vision after 10 cans of kestrel super.
am now on the look out for interesting bike photo opportunities and am meandering up and down roads I never would normally.
am loving the tension of wondering if I can can get back to basecamp to upload (as I don't the tech to do it on the hoof) before someone beats you to it, it's like a Dirty Harry style 'do you feel lucky punk' challenge? Sod the scenic route, game on!
am loving the posts like Blue Quinns that give a bit of background history to the locations.
am looking forward to some harder ones and people giving out clues, the scope seems endless in this game, you could have like Skully mentioned word association or cryptic clues or whatever or you can keep it simple, so something for everyone.
am loving that in Londons famous London this game could go on for years.
good work forum, whoop whoop
insert obligatory isn't it about time you got a bloody life comment

it is a nice part of the world to be cycling through (the wales end not the brum end, sorry brummers), but the main roads are scary with high speed traffic and bends a pleny so avoid the A-roads, this will be hillier, and further, but much better.
my folks live on that line and that line is pretty rubbish for cyclists, note the plural, as i went back at christmas and the bike compartment had enough room for one bike. poor show. so please check. yes you can put them in the aisle but its a often has only only 2 carriages and this is league of gentlemen country so 20 cyclists will seem like an invasion.

OK I'm in, so does anyone have any idea how much the train is from Camb back to the metropolis? I'm a skintos job seeker so am watching the sheckles and may have to break into the two's and ones collection or consider selling a kidney depending on the current rate of British Snail extortion.

assertive but considerate sounds fine to me, simple as abc innit. I think the considerate bit works well and drivers will like hearing it as it could be meant to imply to make way for them when the opportunity to safely do so arises, ie get out of their fecking way, which is what they really want isn't it.

re: Can you find a Jpeg image of a Lion, a gazel, a lion eating a gazel and a game/zoo keeper
are you serious? I wish i could get paid employment fulfilling requests like that, shit thats the kind of job i'd for free. Unpaid voluntary work-but you get to look up lions eating shit on the interwebs-form an orderly queue.

I'm a huge fan of compact bars and have the 3T ergosums and some FSA K-force. I definately spend more time on the drops than I do when riding my non compact bar bike (Ritchey WCS)
Of the two I prefer the FSA's, they taper in slightly at the hoods so the 44cm are 44cm on the drops and about 42cm on the hoods so worth considering that when sizing. I've got the fizik dual bar tape with gel underneath and they the most comforatbale bars I've owned and yet are much stiffer than my Richey's and confidence inspiring for those big decents you have planned.

Just to update that I popped in to Brixton Cycles at the weekend and there were no more application forms.
I emailed 'cobblemonster' (from London Classic website) and luckily someone had dropped out so the friend I was registering got on the ride but it seems that its full unless you want to email 'cobblemonster' and get on the reserve list for anyone dropping out.

Them be some skimpy budgie holders or whatever the womens version is called (beaver hammocks?). I take it the Brazilians have a member of the Olympic team doing brazilians.
The beach volley ball is taking place on Whitehall for the Olympics isn't it? they shipping in a beach obviously....sorry we seem to have gone slightly off topic there....

I'm relatively new to this road cycling lark and it seems to me doping has been, and still is, endemic in professional road cycling. Team Sky's showing in last years TDF and their recent comments on problems recruiting cycling professionals not linked to doping almost seems an admission that winning clean is not possible.
The fact the UCI are the chief promoter and regulator of the sport clearly highlights it has no interest in exposing the abuses going on in the sport, (yes you Contador and Armstrong) or its own inadequacies at enforcing them. In fact with the report above stating the UCI may sue Landis it seems if anything Lance has taught them the 'threaten to sue anyone with any crossed words' approach is the way forward.
Historically teams seem to have been heavily involved in doping but they seem happy for individual riders to be hung out to dry amid a mass media circus and things just seem to carry on. With the recent Contador decision it seems there is no deterrant to doping, OK so he may have been stressed out and worried over recent months but history will show him as a multiple TDF winner, hardly a deterrant. Is doping, getting caught, appealing and then coming back just seen as part of the job now?
Having just been reading this thread and many other comments on this forum about general UCI incompetence and seeing the level of contempt the UCI seem to be held in, I wondered how best to express a vote of no confidence in the UCI? Can this be done individually or are there organisations/groups pressing for this already?
The UCI seem like a closed shop and do their own thing with complete disregard for public opinion and I feel frustrated that we are unable to do anything about it, I'm trying hard not to be apathetic and just accept it as the way things are, there must be some way I can register my disapproval beyond having a rant on this forum? As much as anything the current problems in the sport seem to stem from the fact the UCI has historically not dealt with problems properly and they don't look like tidying up their act any time soon so the need for change seems more urgent than ever.
Sorry for the rant, I'm sure the forum glitterati will have been over this a million times (I did UTFS but with the comments in this thread it seemed OK to post here) but what can we as individuals or as a group do. I'd suggest a forum ride to Switzerland to UCI HQ but we'd probably get water cannoned or tear gassed and I guess I'd get neg repped for that. I'm off out now for a ride in the last hour or so of sun to calm myself down without the need for medication.

ha, yes it is, admittedly I wish I'd given it more thought before hand but ho hum. Yep the geared and moutain bike (whisper it) are also blue, I do have a genesis flyer thats white but i'm hoping if I never wash it it will become blue eventually, after two and a bit years it's now definitely a shade of grey so a while to go yet on that one.
Glad you like the Mercian, it only gets out in nice weather and Mercian paintjobs in the sun give a true spangly disco effect thats amazing, luckily today is one of those days and I'm hoping there's many more to come, roll on summer.
