Open frames made by classic builders are cheaper to buy than those built for men. The problem is that there are not as many on the market. Claud Butler and Rotrax amongst many who produced these frames. There is some information at
www.classiclightweights.co.uk/builders/womens-frames-builders.html
(Shameless plug)
There is more if you put 'women's frames' in the search engine on the Home Page -

I guess it is too late (tried to PM one of the leaders yesterday). There is a simple straightforward way through Shelford to the Genome path if you ignore Shelford railway station.
Just follow the road through Shelford with church and then Coop on your left.
At T junction (A301) turn left.
In 150 metres turn right (cycle path sign to Addenbrookes)
In 150 metres cross railway line and turn immediate left onto Genome path. Simples! If you mange this there is an easy traffic free way to Cambridge station
100 metres after Genome colours stop, the cycle path turns right (SP Addenbrookes)
Ignore this and carry straight on under road bridge then bear left where path joins road (tarmac cycle path).
This is a better way to Long Road but;If you want the traffic free way (before you reach Long Road) turn left just before the big new Molecular Sciences Biology building (can't miss it) onto cycle path alongside guided busway and cross railway bridge.
At T junction turn right and use cycle path alongside guided busway to Cambridge Station. -

Have a look at http://www.maypolefreehouse.co.uk/Welcome.html
Lots of clubs use it. There are racks outside and the bike park is 50 metres away. Need a lock though. -
You may not find the vintage ASC quite as good as you hoped. There is slight play in the workings and by the time this is multiplied to the end of the cranks it can be about one centimetre of play either way. This can be a bit unsettling if you are used to S S fixed. Rather like riding with a very slack chain. It is also possible to find a neutral between the gears. The ASC needs the correct trigger but the FC trigger can be adapted. Other triggers will not work.
10am for 11 start. Food at Lauren Rugby 10 - 11
