Chains - replacement for the Wippermann 1z1 1/8" anti-rust chain, anyone tried KMC B1 "Rust Buster"?
Hi all
For some years I've used the Wippermann 1z1 1/8" as a daily driver chain for fixed and single-speed including commute, audax and whatever - I just use the 1z1 for everything outdoors. It lives up to the "anti-rust" claims, wears fairly well and is tester-approved. I've even become fond of its fugly, agricultural looks.
Prices of the 1z1 have gone up (was £8, now £12-15) so I'm looking around at other options.
KMC now do a similar "anti-rust" chain, B1 Wide RB (ie "Rust Buster") and I wondered if anyone has tried it, or has a better idea for a daily use chain that is anti-rust?
Cheers!

I'm not totally set on buying new - I just tend to default to that as I've not had great luck in the past getting hold of specific things used (and never any problems buying from forum classifieds). That's a very helpful point, thanks, as I'd not realised how good second-hand prices would be for 'nice' chainrings.

I noticed aarn have restocked 1/8" 144 bcd track chainrings in their online store as of yesterday.
They are more expensive than I expected: total for a 'Basics' chainring posted to the UK is $128, which puts it into the price bracket of the likes of Dura Ace 7710 (around £85-95) and Sugino Zen (around £105). That's without attracting potential import duty and VAT.
One of my fixed audax friends has been using an aarn for some years and raves about its durability and roundness. This is exactly what I am after for a similar application, married to an Omnium chainset. I've used cheaper ones like Gebhardt and Velosolo until now and would like something a bit nicer.
So: are aarn that good or is this more of a hipster tax situation? What's the forum consensus on 'nice' chainrings up to about £100?

Can't actually find any detail on it beyond what they told me by email - the Dolan warranty page doesn't cover it and I would not have known they do this without asking.
Briefly, as it sounds - ask about your out-of-warranty (or crash damaged) PC and you can get a frame-only replacement for £65 rather than £110. I decided to go for it as it was by far the cheapest solution on shopping around.
By the way the gunmetal grey paint has been OK, but just OK and it's chipped a bit in commute use. I asked for the matt black this time to change things up and as I read here it's very hard-wearing.

Just decided to join the Pre Cursa club as wanted something nimble for fair-weather commutes, riding around town and whatnot as an alternative to always riding my steel audax bike.
I double-checked with Dolan about Omnium compatibility this week and they confirmed current stock of black and gunmetal grey frames are compatible. Overall, I'm impressed. The grey colour way is much nicer than I expected and the smooth welds at the headtube and seat cluster are very nice.
It has tight clearance at the seatstay bridge with a 25c tyre (Durano Plus, measured at 26.5 mm) slammed in the dropouts, although no problems at the chainstays. A 28c will fit, but not slammed forward as the seatstay bridge limits it.
Some weights...
- Frame 1.83 kg (Dolan claim 1.78 kg for same size frame)
- Alpina track fork 566 g
- Alpina post 294 g
- Alpina headset 83 g
- Alpina seat clamp 15 g
- Frame 1.83 kg (Dolan claim 1.78 kg for same size frame)

That was my bike - I copied the idea from the McCraw site. I managed to break my mount the night before the Chiltern Grit and had to make another one quickly from pound shop tupperware. Easy to do though, and stable on the bike.
Reflector mount kindly provided free by Cyclesurgery Great Portland Street. Any bike shop will have a box of these of various sizes.
It won't work for longer audaxes when I'll be using my Carradice saddlebag, so I'll have to figure out an alternative for that.

Cheers @Scilly.Suffolk and @snottyotter, it looked pretty worn but good to know for definite.

Hi @Bezzin, I have almost exactly the same question so I hope you don't mind tagging this on here.
With thanks in advance, I was looking for some advice on judging wear on a fixed sprocket and if I should replace it. I know they develop a "shark's tooth" pattern when worn, but I don't know how worn is too much and if I'm heading towards potential death trap territory.
Pic of sprocket attached - this is an EAI 19t 1/8" steel sprocket and has about 12,000 km on it.

^^ The On-one / Px lights (Phaart Bleep) are not quite the same as the RSP Astrum. I own both lights and the On-one is noticeably less bright than the RSP side-by-side. Also the mounts although very similar are not interchangeable.
The On-one is still a great light, currently using it on the commute and it gets the "What is that light?" question from other riders as often as the RSP does.

14 x Sue

6 x Priscilla
3 x Debby
1 x Debi
1 x Christine1x Janet, 1x Debby. Go team Debby. Quality control letting Janet down a bit as my Barley has a buckle strap coming away after 4 months needing restitching. To be fair I can just restitch it, nothing over complicated about the Carradice bag.

Ordered, cos I forgot to do so when this was originally arranged. Thanks @dangeek!
