Borrowed a 100 cc 2 stroke for mine. It was so wet I remember the saddle as a small lake. At the time it was just a practical test of 20 mins or so. Lusted after a zthou but first off was a kh250 - used to have to reset the points every time you stopped for petrol amidst clouds of billowing 2 stroke fumes.

Sounds like - if it's cable it's an easy fix - should be accessed via a cover on the left side of the engine usually - youtube should help.

Definitely not the rocker cover gasket then ? If your water cooled and it's your cylinder head gasket it would be pretty obvious ( and bad news ). Might be worth just nipping up all the rocker cover bolts just in case. If it's bad you'd be finding it a touch more difficult to start on the button 'cause of dropped compression.
