Perkins disqual is more bullshit than Awangs.
To me, Awangs move was much more likely to cause an incident although it didn't and it was a much more aggressive move whereas the saffa bloke did more to take himself out than anyone else contributed.
So you do think the rules have been overly tightened up, you're not a pursuiter as well are you?

Im surprised its to do with the geo, I mean it seems like most of the hardcore fixed street riders are just pulling bmx tricks which is what the mtb frames are designed for. I would have guessed that the main issue is that street mtbs are designed to have slammed saddles/seatposts. Riding fixed whilst constantly standing up isnt going to be that fun and as proved with that Brooklyn, having a massive seatpost just looks terrible.
I would have thought the original idea of tricks on a fixed was to utilise the bikes 'fixed' mechanics in the execution of a particular trick. Or is that too simple an idea? (not disagreeing with above quote btw I'm just adding a follow on idea).

But is it really that civilised? Are we trying to convince ourselves that we are better than we are? Aren't we just complicated monkeys running around doing 'stuff'?
Ha, good point. I was talking about this the other day in relation to societies from the past that are often thought of as uncivilised in their behaviour. Are we any different now, really? In many respects we're worse IMO. We're living very much in the times of "I'm alright jack and *you *can get te fuck".

I got the impression they made those comments because there's been a tightening up of the rules in recent years which has seen the clamping down of anything not only downright dangerous but also on riders actions that could *potentially *cause a crash even though they may not actually have done so. As such it seems that more and more the rules are impinging on the true spirit of the event i.e. battling for victory in a race that (I understand) when roughly translated means 'the fight' (keirin). Health and safety gone mad would be a simpler way of putting it I believe.

From here:
Awang crossed into path of Van Velthooven and illegally used his head against the New Zealander.
From what Boarders and Porter had to say it sounds like it was more the crossing into the path of VV that was the main reason for the d/q of Awang rather than the use of the head. They also took the view that the sport is being 'over-sanitised' which is hard to disagree with after seeing the way this panned out. -

congratulations. They have changed, yes but then I spose you can't deck goalies now either and the swimmers are back in normal trunks after the time of the record breaking skinsuits. Is it still cool to have lesbian tendencies as well? Its madness I tell ya.
