True, but you're an old time member. My point is that it's harder for new guys to get to that level.
I don't agree, I joined a couple of months ago but don't feel any need to get in with the in crowd (who are the in crowd?) or understand the jokes etc. It's not why i come here. i come here for different opinions and knowledge about cycling and to find out whats new (and old) and ask questions sometimes - it's the asking questions bit that can be a bit fraught with sarcy comments and attempted put-downs or whatever but once you get past that and as long as you've searched for an answer to your question first (and then searched again, twice, just to be sure) it's not so bad :)

C Perhaps if everyone's first 5 posts were visible directly on their profile pages then they might be reminded that they were new once, and more likely than not, their first posts were not miracles of literary insight.
Hahahah yeah that's a great idea. Makes me wish I was in London reading some of the posts on here but being 250 miles north means I only get down to L-town every now and then. Ner mind, maybe one day I'll get my ass to a london drinks sesh.

is it weird that my lower back pain is centered over where my messenger bag sits? Well, it's QL and lower erectors on the right side.
Not weird, quite logical I wudda thought. There's more stress on that side compared to the other so even tho its only your bag and probably not a huge weight , over the course of your commute its enough to place a significant strain on that area relative to the other side.

My 2p's worth, from a recently joined member: Google searches led me here initially and after doing a bit of reading on LFGSS I could see it wasn't a forum to come if you're a bit sensitive to criticism or can't cope with being on the receiving end of banter (some of which can seem harsh at times if you're new to internet forums no doubt but then it does mention this in the members intro).
I've been pleasantly surprised how much I've enjoyed contributing here and have felt any banter I've been the subject of was fair or at least not malicious or nasty and those times when I've given as good as I've got it's been taken in good spirit.
Other forums have their own failings, be it that they're over-moderated, that everyone is so nicey nicey with each other that the most ridiculously moronic posts go unchallenged or they are so afraid to discuss anything controversial that any topic beyond what we all enjoyed on TV last night is slapped down by over-anxious cliques of long time members who see it as their duty to police their forum with a rod of iron.
Every forum has it's faults but IMO this place provides a good balance of opinions and views, provides a great service to its members and the wider cycling community where it can and polices itself pretty damn well for such a large forum that by its nature comprises a broad spectrum of character types.
Its not playschool here but if want discussion on virtually every different facet of cycling and up to date info on all of them plus loads more to boot you could do a lot worse than this place I reckon.

^ why's the Grifter got a dork disc if it has an SA hub?
I'm pretty sure mine did too, standard issue on bikes made by peeps that knew no better?
Cheers for the explanation of 'bike gives me the shits' - hippy, if he (Balki ? male/female) had no saddle it'd have given him a bit more than the shits but by his own admission he is an Aussie so .....maybe thats their thing?
only joking, 'bike gives me the shits' fella ;)
