I'm clearly missing something here. As a straight bloke I quite like ladies. Now, I've always found that a great way to convey this is by not shouting abuse at them or trying to intimidate them. I know, it's just mental isn't it?!!!????
It's so sad to hear about how common this sort of abuse is. I know if I was in a relationship with someone who'd suffered this sort of abuse I'd be incensed.
I wonder if growing up as a young man with female siblings helps build respect? You'd hope so wouldn't you. I have a little sister and I'm terribly protective of her, it's often not conscious but literally instinctive.
+1
i would be so angry if one of those steroid taking, muscle bound, skinhead, psychotic wankers had a pop at my wife. I would certainly contemplate writing them a very stiff letter i can tell you!?!?

Sorry for a bit of a boring story, but i think it fits here
My dad (now 77) was a great road racer and grass track racer in Ireland in the 50s/60s as i grew up in the 80s/90s he would take me out training and i loved his stories of how training should be a pleasure. All i remember other people saying was "no pain no gain".
Anyway my dad would hang the geared bikes up on 1st October and from then to 1st March it was 'fixed gear' only, adding a tooth here and there to get the power back, i would even have to ride my first few TT's of the year fixed (undergeared), getting faster and faster, desperate to get the geared bike down to finally throw everything at the TT course.
Since those days i have i great fondness for riding fixed, it's just great.
If it's TT and Sportives your riding, fixed will do you the world of good. Keeping a sensible gear stops you blowing a gasket after 20miles, and you will always finish.
My dad told me once that he rode his track bike from cork to tipperary (60miles) for a grass track event (25 mile), with his cane race wheels (wtf!) over each handlebar. Whats more he rode back after!! 145 miles in total on 46x15

...that's why there is no need to enforce it any further or legislate against it, unless there is proof otherwise.
It is already illegal to ride without a front brake with a fixed gear, and illegal to ride without front and rear brakes on single speed and geared bikes
How much further could you legislate against it??

has anyone got any tips on stripping and re-painting carbon wheels?
well, this wheel! There are some websites, that i can't find atm that tell you howto, general idea is to use a very fine sandpaper and stop as soon as you get to the actual CF, its dangerous to try and use any type of stripper as it will also damage the resin that was used in the layering up of the CF
So, v fine paper + time + care + luck

I walked out on a mesenger a year or two ago on Torrington Place, cars only travel one way, cyclists have their own lane for bi-directional travel.
It was most bizarre while i was looking left and stepping out i heard "screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech grunt, groan, puff, pant". i looked to the right as i was curious what the noise very close to my right ear had been. I was confronted by a red faced, sweaty messenger, both hands in a vice like grip on his brakes (glad he had them or i woulda be T-Boned) in the middle of a track stand. I yelped with fright, which seemed to cheer him up, i apologised, he went on his way.
TBH i deservered to be clattered
Edit: However the guy riding the bike in the above clip was/is a twat for what he said, but the guy who got hit should have looked both ways, i always do now even on a OWS :)
