Ditto this!
Hi
I decided to invest my cycle2work voucher on a fixed gear.
Sheldon Brown and the bill to get cassette, chain and crank replaced on my rat-peugeot commuter are responsible for my interest.
I really dig this forum (even though the more I read the less I know what to fucking buy as a first fg)Holla at the Cambridge posse!

You know what your doing max! and I assume have been riding for years!
There is a lot that a lot of people dont know, I personally am learning daily when I visit the forum. To be fair, if I was riding a freewheel bike with only one brake and the cable snapped, I'd just step on the rear tyre and skid the wheel to a stop.
That's just me.

James - you have no idea! i was getting passed by all manner of kids trike!!
I can get off at a good speed leave the geared lot behind, but there comes a point when it feels like I've been picked up and am running in mid air! no thrust and the crank roatating! then they shoot past. I now ride everywhere quite sedately!! LOLI need to get on some rides and get more experience when I attach the clip and new pedals.

jees baptism of fire for ada"
I dont understand the depth of feeling towards other cyclists at times in these forums. Fair do's many offered aid and advice. Hartxander that was a cool gesture to make!
I ride fixed with only a front brake, been doing so all year actually - without retention!!!
Just bought some toe clips and new pedals to fix this weekend, but I rode without the retention because I wanted to get used to riding fixed before i clipped myself in.I say the above because I have probably been seen by some on here, who thought "Twat, Fuckwit, Hipster etc" and simply as a flash judgement! I just wanted to make sure I was safe and not a danger to others!
ada, i do agree about the brake though! I reckon Hartxander's offer is a good one. Humane, and fuckin generous!

I'm rolling across to this, I like the idea personally. There are a load of different views on bikes, from your purists, randoms, neebies to Hipsters etc. All get together a couple free drink and grub! some advertising for those in the scene, Im an advocate of bike style personally so its a Win.
Then roll down to the afterparty for some boogie and more drinks - isnt that what people in here do on rides or on cruises ending up at LMNH?!!Only thing that gets me is where is this other club, everybody locks their bike up and enter a club en mass! i suppose there are a lot of prettier bikes than mine on the road!

Its life, as you say strikes bring more tension out. Everybody is trying to get somewhere and is accountable to somebody else probably.
if you have the plate details report it.
if not, forget it and have a caipirinha. let it go or it could bounce around in your head, and for what reason? absolutely nothing.enjoy your bike simple, however if anyone actually steps to you phsically!! Thats another thread.

Male courier - seen this guy a number of times crossing blakcfriars and around there - tall - wears a hat with a hole in the top from which spoout his locks/rooster comb. looks a bit like a skinny white Jason Lee - minus football! - and on a bike!

Think I got a couple pics of fixed 's over there but gotta dl form the camera to see.

Ta for the education! I will as of this weekend (pedals arrival dependant) be a more worthy rider hopefully! Being new to this I had to rely upon my own thoughts on how to preserve my own life! What you say makes sense and i will advise any new riders I know.
You and many others may be very experienced and knowledgable, but those less knowledgable may also have some intelligence!! ie to realise my limitations (at speed without foot retention) and as I said just roll easy everywhere instead of trying to blow like the wind.
As for the "gear" "cadence" you are no doubt correct.
I'm attempting to take this as education rather than opinionated patronisation - see bonfire of the Ada for doing what she thought sensible!
