Realise this is an old thread - if there's a newer one that deals with the same stuff I'll move over.
Immediately after nearly having my rear wheel taken out by a half asleep mini driver on euston road this morning some twonk in a small van decided he was fed up of waiting in lane so he pulled over from the left hand lane in to the bus lane without indicating. I was going at a fair lick down the bus lane and this meant my shoulder was introduced to his rear tail light (but stayed on the stead).
I then went over to the passenger window and asked him what the hell he was doing - he starts getting in to a fit of rage saying I punched his van! His wife is screaming blue murder in the passenger seat as he undoes his seatbelt and launches a punch across her out the window at me! Caught me lightly but he was no joe frazier.
The thought went through my head to say "alright lets do this then" but thought better of it, lights went green and he sped off with his wife still screaming. all a bit surreal. Didn't get his number plate so I guess that's the end of that.

good news! luckily the seller was a thoroughly decent chap - no quibble about the cracked headtube (said it was a while since he'd ridden it and didn't notice it...) and has given me a full refund. even sent a courier to come and pick up the frame. still gutted as that frame had summer slave in it's veins but glad I didn't end up losing out.
i will at some point own a fort.

I was expecting to be posting up pics of my shiny new fort ro aero and joining the prestigious and glorious fort owners club today. Things haven't exactly gone to plan.
I bought thishttp://rover.ebay.com/roverimp/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=2&pub=5574889051&toolid=10001&campid=5336525415&item=120901988461&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER] last week, after failing to push the button on tomsvoboda's fort sale for ages, and received it in a nicely packaged box on Thursday. After lugging it home via three tube lines at rush hour I calmy unpacked it and held it above my head like the mutha of a trophy it was.
Then to my surprise I see a mark on the back of the head tube - on closer inspection it's a fucking crack. How the hell did the seller not notice this?? It's just a paint chip I tell myself. Wrong. After removing the headset and having a better look the crack goes right through the tube and up inside about 2.5 inches. Gutted.

My housemates' bike was stolen recently on 1 April (I know it's probs long gone by now but worth a shout). Was locked to a lamppost outside 1 Bunhill Row, EC1Y 8YY and taken between 5pm and 8pm.
His description:
A silver 1970s-1980s road bike:
- manufactured by P. Blondin, Strasbourg
- shiny, silver drop handlebars without tape or other covering
- clunky, new, cheap, black plastic pedals
- a little grubby
- black, cylindrical bell on stem between handlebars
- 2 gear levers on downtube
- black saddle with red stripe down each side
- wire, aluminium bottle cage on the downtube
- dull metallic seat post with grooves running the length of it
- Gatorskin tyre on front wheel
- black light brackets on handlebars and seat post
Can see how much it meant to him from that description alone! Also a photo below. Extra bits from my memory are that it's got weinmann calipers and vitus tubing - but he's got everything else above. I know it's not worth a huge amount but it's got a shit load of sentimental value to him. Any spots or info would be greeted with much happiness on his part.

Had this set up on my roberts lo pro for a while. Had a dia compe friction bar end shifter and cane creek cross top levers on the end of my la 84 bull horns. Had all wires routed under the bar tape. Worked pretty well although as said above the levers aren't really meant to be in that position and they didn't always fill me with confidence..
I'm in the middle of a full c record make over though and switching to downtube friction shifters so will have the dia compe bar end ones available soon if anyone wants them.
