braker, are you still planning some reconaissance this Sunday? I'm keen to join if so, so wanted to find out your plan for the ride. Fixed or geared? Average speed? ETD 8am? Do you have navigational aids?
My geared bike is in hospital at the moment so I'd want to go fixed if that doesn't risk holding up a group. I've not done this length of ride fixed before but would be reasonably confident of pushing on.

I remember from some advanced driving training in Germany that "Stodderbremsen" was a deliberate technique of phased skid braking (though not necessarily that effective), but that doesn't quite capture it either.
That means 'make (can mean 'do' or 'manufacture') a (playground) slide'.
Keep 'em coming ...
I'm sure there is a possible expression, but I have no idea what it could be.

Thanks for the tip Skully. I'd been looking for an excuse to get up there and get myself acquainted.
You do need an Environment Agency permit, but I think they're pretty relaxed about it as long as you are catching the right sort, and using the right kind of apparatus.
Apparently, the rivers are teeming with the blighters. Had planned a trip to the River Lee or Grand Union canal. Could make for an interesting ride!

Sounds very much like braker on his way to scoping out the 100 Club ride to Bristol - Canyon not Condor?
