I'm at the start of a project for my better half, which will probably involve trying to change some downtube friction shifters for indexed. I'm after some advice.

My current thinking is: remove the shifters, saw off the braze ons, fill (or get filled) the holes, get the frame powder coated, and attempt to source some band-on eyelets to lead up to indexed shifters on the bars.

Anyone care to offer advice on the general idea, have experience of doing a similar job, or have specific suggestions for components that might come in useful?

I Garmined the route, though there were several quite lengthy sections where I forgot to turn it back on after a stop. Idiot. But I did try to retrace those steps manually yesterday. High possibility that the stuff around Burnham Beeches is very wrong. Also around Fingest.

For the record, I bought a Knog NERD from David recently with no issues. I haven't been involved in any of the previous aggro, but the guy was genuine.

Didn't get on with it I'm afraid.

There was some really good singing, particularly Castor, and I loved the chemistry between the four leads.

But I think the most difficult thing for any modern production of baroque is what to do with all the incidental music (and there's a lot of it). This one had some good ideas, but tried to put them all on stage at the same time, and I think lost dramatic tension as a result. The final act of the first half was seeing Pollux being dragged head first into a pile of earth by the ghost of Castor, dressed up to look like their mutual love interest Telaire, to muffled titters from large parts of the auditorium.

It's a shame - the staging and conception were really innovative, which normally really gets me up for it. And parts of the direction were really imaginative and well executed. But overall it didn't hang together very well. We left at half time.
