I don't know why I just keep looking at the list and don't sign up. Time to do something about that.

I'm really keen on an evening ride next week. Haven't done TNRC before (jealous lurker), so probably couldn't hack a deluxe, but have bike (geared), lights (are the Electron 16-LED TNRC-approved?) and enough mechanical nous to get home for if it goes bad. I won't set the world alight speed-wise, but not a numpty either.

Also did the Little Lumpy 65-miler on Sunday. Also couldn't understand all the moaning about signage. I've virtually no experience of these things, hadn't really looked at the route beforehand, but found the directions pretty clear. Only nav fail for me was taking a right up Turkey Hill for a second time after the last feed stop. Could have done without that.
Otherwise, cakes excellent, good mechanical backup, good roads and a nicely varied route. Would definitely do it again.

SOLD SOLD SOLD
Imperial Petrel Tandem, 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub gearing, 1930s.
Classic 1930s British touring tandem. Deep, pearlescent blue-green colour. Good condition but with some superficial rust and nicks in the paintwork. No dents. Restored by previous owner and has seen limited riding since (too small for me and the wife).
Seat tube (captain): 52cm (c-t)
Seat tube (stoker): 51cm (c-t)
Top tube (captain): 58cm (c-c)
Top tube (stoker): 58cm (c-c)
NB: short/laid back stems mean top tube lengths will be longer than for conventional geometry. See pictures. The bike is in good condition for its age, beautiful example of a touring tandem. I've included pictures of the worst nicks in the paintwork.
Gears: Sturmey Archer 3-speed internal hub gear
Wheels: Raleigh rims 26 x 1 3/8. Front has a Continental Cityride tyre, rear tyre branded "Leo". I still have the front "Leo", but the wall is fairly perished. Have a spare unused Cityride if you want a matching set, which I'll include.
Vintage pedals, cottered cranks with some rust on cotter pins.
Bantel "Pursuit" mudguards.
2 x Brooks saddles, front heavily cracked but ridable, rear in reasonable condition

+1 For Faust.
Saw it last Friday having got tickets from the half price ticket booth on Leicester Square (good tip).
The way Gilliam managed to interleave so many eclectic elements of the background (German Romanticism, the Enlightenment, the rise of Hitler), without losing his thread, and while still managing to keep the message vivid was impressive. Also some fantastic performances from the cast, which you wouldn't necessarily back a film director to elicit.
Spectacular show, especially in contrast to the last thing I saw there (Lucrezia Borgia), which was terrible.
