Probikekit was selling large Dura Ace 7710 track rings for 50% off or £50 plus there is a 20% off code around somewhere. I can't remember if they have 53T but I got a 52T for £40 delivered which seemed good deal. Have a look there perhaps (they were only doing 3/32 in the sale and not 1/8, but I am not Chris Hoy so can live with that).

There are trailers that serve as washrooms you can use to change in if you wish. Otherwise, turn up (early), register and ride. First day needs to be the induction session and they are v. crowded recently for obvious reasons, thus need to arrive early.

You could get a British Airways Amex card, use the card to pay off your mortgage and collect frequent flier points. Redeem those for flights to NYC. Get new mortgage and pay off card debt when you get home?

Of course BA frequent flier miles are nearly impossible to redeem...

Also I think the drive must be pretty long? if you are looking into alternative cities can try Baltimore as that airport is connected to the Amtrak train line that runs along the East Coast into Manhattan (obv Newark is too). The Philadelphia -> NYC train is a breeze but you would have to find a way from the airport to the train station. Warning: I havent looked but suspect the train fares would eliminate any airfare savings. IME £438pp is not a bad rate in the current world.

My recent experience is that the airlines have taken a lot of capacity out of the system so the planes are pretty full and prices relatively high at the moment, though I know that is not what you want to hear. I fly there often for work and my family is in the U.S. so I travel back often. Will give it some thought.

I didn't intend to start the car vs train debate. Just seems to me that headline fares increasing at twice the rate of inflation on average is pretty steep, when fares already are high.

Wow, track was heaving today. The youth 9 a.m. session was full with every bike in use, some children were even turned away :( Induction also seemed to be filled to capacity. I suspect for the next few weeks the advice will have to be to get there early!

There is some dude who makes the DIY ones and sells them on ebay for £2 if you can wait a couple days.
