one - being an OAP, it's never going to get raced again, so you won't have a support car, nor the need to change wheel asap on the spot.
two - the only person who'll be riding this is either the usual weekend warrior, the hipster or god forbid, the kind who hook this up on the wall for eternity.
The guy who won't be riding it at all is the only one who'll be riding it? Does he shave himself, do you know?

??? I think somebody, and I'm placing my money on you for this one, is suffering from a little bit of reading with comprehension failure.
Very possibly, and I probably didn't help matters because the last bit of my post was more answering RPM rather than you. The Interwebz: helping people disagree over nothing since 1980.

Nope, porn/anti porn is a purely subjective thing so you can label whatever you like as one or the other, or even both depending on your mood, and others can choose to agree, disagree or not bother reading. It really doesn't matter and hence the idea that discussions around it are basically of a wanky nature.
Whereas whether a bike is safe enough to ride, and will work, is rarely subjective, or at least not in the same way.
So start a "safe to ride" thread. If a thread is called "Bike Porn", it's where people want to post pictures of bikes that look so good to them that it bypasses their higher functions and connects to something more primal. Doesn't have to be wanky, either; there can be some interesting discussions to be had about it. One potential topic of interest can be how acquiring greater familiarity with the function and practicalities of a technology can change your view of the aesthetics - which is not at all the same as giving up and just saying "function vs. wank"
People want to post pics of bikes that make them sigh as they roll past. Maybe some other people need to learn to live with that.
-
As far as porn/anti porn goes the only really relevant bit is whether a bike is mechanically sound and will perform within acceptable parameters. Beyond that it's just a bunch of wankstains, myself included, on the net, spouting off.
Let me get this straight - porn is about function, not aesthetics or lust, and anybody who thinks otherwise is a wanker? I suggest that the second half of your statement contains the clue to the error in the first half.

I have a bike with those Halo fluro yellow wheels. I picked up a cheap OTP track bike last year and decided not only to go with the garish yellow colour scheme but to "enhance" it.
Possibly the yellowest bike on the streets of London, when I took that pic. Doesn't have the yellow bar tape any more ;) Still, it's much less likely to be stolen than my other bikes.
