I've had a bike posted to me, but it wasn't fully assembled, so took up less room. The stem/bars weren't attached, or the saddle/seatpost installed in the frame, nor was the front wheel fitted - it was secured to the frame by the seat-tube, reducing the bike's length.
It can be done though, so think about posting it like how I've described.
