Use a strop. You should keep it pretty sharp so you need to learn how to do it yourself. A blunt straight razor is not safe.

I use lupine wilmas, front and back; back I got a red gel (from a stage light) stuck inside the clear plastic bit.
They are exceeding bloody expensive but as bright as car headlights (honestly, I swear). if you detach all the additional mounting they have the same band to a hook as knogs.
I would recommend getting them second hand, they'll still cost a fair bit but no-one will be unsure of where you are on the road. They're dirt, liquid and accident proof too. There's a separate battery pack but it's easily attached. They're not the prettiest lights.

It may depend on your hair type but I could fit a larger helmet on top of mine. However I have fairly straight hair and it made the roots of them look quite depressed after a cycle and they only perked back up after a wash and dry (which takes hours on long ones) I also think it contributed to a bit of hairline breakage. I gave up wearing a helmet and now retain that bad habit.
Kindof obvious but if you get rained on they can hold a lot of water and become distractingly heavy (mine being waistlength). Can't exactly pop a brolly up on the bike.

In the end they were annoying me so I shaved them off...

I drilled a small indent into the key then put superglue onto a blunt nail, inserted and tried to remove. (Was super paranoid about getting glue in the lock!) It took me about 10 goes to get it out enough to grab. You may be significantly less cackhanded. This was before I'd started to turn the key though.

Unfortunately I already have a 55cm, with really nice parts on. I'm 6ft so it just doesn't work, even with a good foot of seatpost!

Probably not tbh, it's very well worn and I'll probably just build it up for a friend.

Having to face up to the fact that my well loved 55cm is far too small.

Superb, not covered, but very secure, both in location and point of attachment. Some people don't even lock. Huge number of nice bikes there too.
