Has anyone here used this and is it possible to buy it in the uk? Or should I glue direct to the rim?

Apex FD takes a fair bit of effort to shift too; 5700 105 is better in this respect, but that's about the only fault I can find with Apex.

After some light, cheap rigid 26" disc only forks for my mtb, needs a really long steerer. any one have anything kicking about?

In keeping with the thread title, PX Uncle John SRAM Red / Apex for < £1000. Seems like a great deal. Other than the lack of disc brakes, which you don't really need, what am I missing?

Lardboy are you techie enough to correct Halford's shoddy bike set-up? Think re-cabling and adjusting the disc brakes and faffing with the carbon steerer when the headset loosens up.

If you have a classic 'man' shape you could get away with it by having the seat low and shortening the stem. Which would make it ridable, but I'm not sure why you'd do it that way...? If that's the kind of geo you want to ride, why not look for something like a Synapse?
