Water features - tranquil centrepiece or scummy leaf trough?
I haven't managed to do anything to my scorched earth mud patch this year, but now life is hopefully getting a touch less mental I'm hoping to progress things a bit.
I have a hankering for a water feature, in my mind's eye it would a strip trough adjacent to the patio and splitting that and the planting, with a little corten waterfall at one of the short ends. Our window will look on to it so I feel like it could add some visual interest, but we also have a huge oak (technically in my neighbours but we definitely get a lot of the leaves) so it would probably need covering every autumn. Might just be a flight of fancy that's not worth the hassle, but I'm building hard surfaces in other places so probably as a good a time as any to think about.

13.8x8.6" drawing area - just larger than an A4 sheet. A4 paper for scale.
Barely used, I got sent another one as I thought this was faulty, turned out to be a driver issue. I've had most luck with the previous driver version (14.7). Use the other at work now but I think I want something small for home. The size of this makes it good for pairing with a large monitor and for detailed work.
Included is the tablet, USB connection cable, pen charging cable, pen and nib holder and lads of spare nibs.

What's your plan with that? Do you have a ready supply of well-rotted manure or will you chuck down fresh and hope it rots enough by the spring?
After neglecting our plot completely for the second year running I'm hoping I'll have a bit more free time (now I've got wedding and child-birth out of the way) and am considering trying the latter. Haven't really got a decent composting set up yet as that's also on my to-do list.

yes, I'd heard of that one, will have to look at what it's producing. An acquaintance on FB just quoted this from a paper they published
"Though DALL-E 2 is for exclusively non commercial purposes today, it may eventually have significant economic implications. The model may increase the efficiency of performing some tasks like photo editing or production of stock photography which could displace jobs of designers, photographers, models, editors, and artists. At the same time it may make possible new forms of artistic production, by performing some tasks quickly and cheaply."

My LinkedIn feed is awash with images made with Midjourney in the last week. As a visualizer it's quite exciting and scary in equal measure. I'm guessing a lot of concept artists are quaking in their boots right now.
Anyone here using it and have an invite to the beta? My applications haven't had a response yet.

Looking around I'm guessing they haven't updated their website in a while

Thanks, gonna see how it turns out given some light and air. From memory it gets worse when I don't shave, but obviously it's hidden then. And you're right, I might shave the day before, can imagine slicing myself on the morning, and also to avoid the 'Michael Gove look' (to paraphrase my own mother -harsh).
Will investigate foundations too, don't think I've been in a Body Shop since the 90's.
Edit: might need some eye make-up too looking back at that photo. Having a child has done bad things to me.

I think the action would need to be some kind of eccentric/cam for the door the come from inset to over 90° open wouldn't it? Unfortunately that probably means bulk.Edit: your totally right, it would. I was thinking hidden hinges originally but I think that's over-doing it now.
Now, anyone know a place that will cut Valchromat and not charge me for the whole sheet?

Is there a hinge that can do any one of the below and still be pretty slim on the inside (i.e not kitchen cabinet hinges). Trying to fathom a design for a fold down desk/workstation with additional leaf doors that will hold a graphics tablet. Found some Hafele ones that will probably do C albeit imperfectly.

Is it possible to embed a video from URL in InDesign? My document currently just has a hyperlink to a youtube page but I'm thinking it would be preferable to play directly in the PDF without embedding within the PDF it and making the document file size huge (not sure if this is actually possible, it is with powerpoint)
Presumably I'll need a direct URL to the mp4 rather than a URL to youtube

Anyone know what graphical content might form part of an Environmental Impact Assessment?
I know this thread is usually for lusting over or deriding various architectural projects, but I assume there must be some folk pretty knowledgeable about the subject on a professional level here. Now I frequently get involved with the visual stuff: Verified Views and such, but I need to know what other content in an EIA might come from someone usually tasked with making things look presentable (not the actually nitty-gritty of the technical assessment). Other than 3D renders would it just be photography, plans and maybe a few graphs?

Thinking of selling my retro MTB frame and upgrading to one of these as I don't trust the bendy frame and forks to carry my chonk of a 9month-old safely. Am I daft throwing money at a 26"/rim brake bike? To me the slightly lower CoG and simplicity of rim brakes seem ideal for this use, plus the wheels I have are pretty much bombproof 36h Son/D121 so should last a while. The only concern is the ongoing availability of decent tyres but I can't imagine they'll discontinue 26"marathons for a while.

@edmundro you're tree surgeon right? Can I ask your opinion on what could be the best course of action to take this oak down a bit? Would pollarding be a bad idea considering I don't think it's been done a regular intervals in the past?
It has a trim last year but I don't think he took anything off the height, just lifted the crown a bit and thinned. It now blocks all sun from my garden in the middle of the day, it at least left a sunny patch by the house previously.
I'll be waiting until winter to do anything drastic but would like to get a plan of action sorted in advance.
No access for cranes unfortunately.
