Not a proper upgrade but some DIY Yonkopads perhaps? Pretty cheap... and I think for each you can get 2

Love them DIY/cowboy approach :) Still do it with cheaper headsets but still the LBS for a better set. I remember looking at the Ultra thin DA fork crown race, wasnt gonna risk it with a mallet and screwdriver/wedge.
Races, especially on old bikes, are not too hard to get off... use an old axle/screwdriver/anything with an edge and just wack it off! A bit cowboy but wont do any damage if you are careful...

Just go to the Hard To Find cycle jumble with it. Leave it against the wall with the chainring side facing outwards and I am pretty sure there will be someone who will enquire whose bike is it :) I have 2 old Raleighs at home. One with drum brakes, another with rod brakes. Not too sure what year they are but they came with Dunlop/Brooks super spring sprung saddles. It might not be worth much, but to me they are gold :)

Here's one built up with tubs thou for 80 quid. If you want it new, tried TFG?

Nicely said... Any chance of reporting him to his school for being a schemer and cheater? Might be doing something more sinister for all we know... :)
Regards,
BenjaminOh dear, what a shame that Jonny turned out to be a total chump. I’ll be honest, I could have cried on reading that I’d been totally had. He told me it was only his second bike project and that he’d been feverishly getting into cycling and was reading everything he could about everything bike-related. He said that he was really excited about his new bike project but that he didn’t have much money, so I replied - feeling nostalgic about my own early bike builds – that I was excited for him and I’d sort him out with a good price and help him out with some free bits to get him on the road. I lugged all that stuff from Montpelier to Clifton – on foot – and threw in some Campy aero brakes and brake cables to help him out (cables that he later sold and levers which he falsely described as C-Record and were actually early Mirage/Veloce.) I sold the Aende frame, Philippe stem, B123 bars, Miche aero seat-post and NOS striped Turbo saddle for £170 - a pretty good deal if I might say so myself -and a gesture that I would have been very happy with back when I was putting together my first bike. I told him that I was selling on the forum to ensure that it went to a good home and that I didn’t want it to go to an East London hipster, so I was excited at the prospect of it being ridden around Bristol and that I was thrilled that I might get to see it locked up at the University where he said he was studying (and where I’m a Post Grad student). I’m still a trusting and happy-go-lucky kinda guy and I still believe in the goodness of people – after all, the other people who I sold things to did seem pretty chuffed with their purchases and I was happy to have helped some people out with some cheap parts. If I have some superfluous bike bits in the future, I’ll still sell them on the Bristol forum at the same (maybe-you’ll-be-future) Mates Rates. A huge consolation was the hilarious Jonny Lau themed memes on here and that so many people spoke of their disgust at this guy taking advantage of the community’s good nature to spin a profit. I hope it was worth it, Johnny Lau.
Ride safe people,
Thom x

Difference between the one on the bay and the one mig has is the gears.
Bay: Common SA 3 speed hub
Mig: BB gears :)I did overheard some very enthusiatic chatter about this BB gear thingy a few weeks back and from what I heard, it's quite rare to find (bcos of age?), might be wrong as it is just hearsay and I am not bothered googling :)

Would have kept it if I could have done justice to it, sale agreed and hence it is off the market.
Will keep the buying spree in check and use the funds to improve the other bikes I have right now.
There might be a 'polish a turd' project, which I am quite excited about but let's see how far it goes :)
S'alright, i guess.....forget the LDV detail, would be better if it was all black frame.
...
I'd rather have your(?) D2, much nicer -

I think they were built just to showcase Lotus's capabilities and were not meant to be raced as the bikes are not allowed by the governing body? Might be wrong but I am a massive Lotus (cars) fan and it popped up during a discussion.
