Need to remove a rear cassette, is it rude to go into a bike shop and ask to borrow tools and do on the spot?
Are you asking whether 'we' think it's rude or if the employee/owner of the bike shop will?
The latter depends on how affluent you appear, the bike shop peeps' humour and how nicely you ask.
I don't think its rude but I'm an ex-squatting chancer.
Back when Brixton Cycles were on Coldharbour lane, they would always lend tools and being penniless this was a major plus for me. They also gave good advice and had a free parts bin they'd let you root through.Fucking hippies!
Even Brixton Cycles aren't like that anymore.
Can you still get 'Cassette Crackers TM'? This would be the cheapest way as you don't need a chain-whip and a adj spanner.

I meant for REAL bikes...
:)
Smallest sprocket on an actual cassette (more than one cog) seems to be 9;

It all depends on how hard the tile is.
Basic ceramic tile you can drill fine with a new masonry bit - I think good quality straight shank are harder to find these days but I only buy SDS so I don't know. At a pinch I've used sds in a chuck drill -just line it up carefully. The spear shaped tungsten carbide jobs don't really seem that much better than a good masonry bit in my exp.
Most floor tile and a lot of better quality wall tile is just too damn hard though.
The diamond mini core bits which come with the trickly water thing are the way to go really - but they are expensive. If you're just drilling a hole or two for fixings try a masonry bit first, if it won't cut it go and buy a diamond jobbie, that's what I do.
Top Tip; Put a bit of masking or electrical tape on the tile first to stop the drill bit walking/sliding.

I've got a very nice very small Perry frame I want to build up for the Mrs.
Needs a fork, clearance/eyes for mudguards and around 28mm tyres would be great.
The frame is tiny so almost any steerer would be long enough once re threaded (might go threadless).
Frame is Columbus neuron so fork can't be anything gash.PM me if you have.

whats a good winter waterproof bootie/overshoe?
I've got some Endura neoprene MTB ones for commuting which keep my feet warm but not dry, as said water will always get in.
These are good because they have tough rubber toe and sole so they don't wear through ( not relevant if you're a track standing champ).
There are waterproof socks out there but I reckon those must be disgusting just fill up from the inside -
We have Courts and prisons to maintain the status quo, and they are usually filled by, officiated over and staffed by bigger scum bags.
IMO.
I agree about referees though.
