I reckon I should just about be able to manage this. I haven't lost as much fitness as I'd feared, and I've got 3 months to get the rest back. I'm doing a 6 mile each way commute now, and I'm going to do gradually increasing weekend rides out in Kent. Need to lose a few kgs too.

Tom, what part of kent? if you wanted to partner up sometime I might be around

I think you are if the temp of the water is over 14 degrees i think it is. Thames<14 degrees but ive never been in it let alone in july it might be different

I thinks its totally more absurd seeing as I am doing this with a team from work and am the strongest cyclist but seeing as we have enough cyclist and no swimmers and im stupid enough to like a challenge I said I would give the long swim a go and let someone else cycle if there was no other option. the organiser seems to have taken that to mean i was just wanting to swap. hey ho, down to the pool we go..

^^ thats a pretty good map even so. using that I can map it on my london road map and bring that. using street view to get some idea of the junctions e.t.c.

doesnt help that im nearly 16 stone. i dont float well on my legs so if i get tired i reckon ill just end up treading water and doing doggy paddle

oh and i didnt realise this but as its open water, if the temp goes below a certain temp i need a full wetsuit.

im sitting firmly on the fence here with regards to the question of whats happened with loic due to the heresay and lack of any actual evidence. but i dont believe their sponsorship status or their ability should be of question over whether they should be able to ride their bike on the tarck. Id love to have a go myself but having never even been near a track im sure I would spend the whole session getting in everyones way and being generally dangerous for others. does this mean i shouldnt get on my bike and give it a go?

not me though...only pink thing I have is a work shirt and Im buggered if im dressing up in a suit and riding x miles...

did suggest this to the mrs as we arent far from there at all. but as she isnt the biggest cyclist and hasnt been on a sportive and doesnt like the lycra side of things too much. (and seing as I have taken her out for the past two weekends on long (for her anyway)) rides. we are going to the beach if its nice. and im reliably informed that we are going to the beach even if its not nice! Hope it all goes well for those riding and marshalling and Spesh Needs if you could post up a post ride summary/write up im sure ill be able to convince her and my sister to do this next year.
