Text from the above FT article:
The 300-year Anglo-Spanish dispute over Gibraltar is again threatening to disrupt the Brexit process, as the EU prepares to brand the Rock as “a colony of the British Crown” in its legislation to cope with a no-deal exit.Britain officials hit back at the “completely inappropriate” language to describe Gibraltar in a spat over the territory that underlines how it could still pose a serious obstacle to an orderly Brexit.
Some EU diplomats fear Madrid’s relentless pursuit of the “colony” reference is a sign that it will press for even more difficult concessions on Gibraltar if Britain reopens its Brexit deal, or requests to delay its March 29 exit date. “The Spanish are gearing up for a Gibraltar fight when there is an extension request,” said one senior EU diplomat. “It could be dangerous.”
After extensive negotiations that significantly delayed the progress of the legislation, Spain won support this week for adding a footnote regarding Gibraltar to a proposed EU law that would provide visa-free access to UK nationals if Britain leaves without a deal.
“Gibraltar is a colony of the British Crown,” the text said, according to a copy seen by the Financial Times. “There is a controversy between Spain and the UK concerning the sovereignty over Gibraltar, a territory for which a solution has to be reached in light of the relevant resolutions and decisions of the General Assembly of the United Nations.”

Spain sets Brexit challenge with Gibraltar demands
Spain has forcefully pressed its demands on Gibraltar’s status at opportune moments in the Brexit talks, often to the annoyance of some other member states. Once it is formally approved, Spain would expect such a footnote to be used in all future EU legislation regarding the UK after Brexit.A UK government spokesperson said: “Gibraltar is not a colony and it is completely inappropriate to describe in this way. Gibraltar is a full part of the UK family and has a mature and modern constitutional relationship with the UK. This will not change due to our exit from the EU.”
The reference to Gibraltar being “a colony of the British Crown” emerged as a compromise between Spain and France. The latter had raised objections to the original text proposed by Madrid earlier in January.
This had referenced a UN list of “non-self-governing territories . . . subject to decolonisation”, which proved awkward for Paris because the list also included French Polynesia and New Caledonia.
The Franco-Spanish compromise uses potentially more provocative language for the UK, while watering down the reference to the UN decolonisation list.
EU officials point out that the reference to Gibraltar being “a colony of the British Crown” was made in a European Court of Justice decision from 2017. During the proceedings, the government of Gibraltar used the UN decolonisation list to argue that it should be treated as “separate and distinct” from the UK when it came to applying EU gambling laws.
The UK and Gibraltar governments argue that the territory has a right to self-determination. In a 2002 referendum on sharing sovereignty with Spain, 98.9 per cent of Gibraltar voters voted to reject the proposal. “All parties should respect the people of Gibraltar’s democratic wish to be British,” the UK spokesperson said.
The inclusion of the language has underlined the inbuilt advantage that members of the EU have in pressing home points of national interest in negotiation with countries outside the bloc.
In November Spain threatened to hold up approval of Britain’s draft withdrawal agreement as it sought further guarantees over the status of Gibraltar after Brexit. Josep Borrell, Spain’s foreign minister, hailed the eventual agreement as “the most important” since the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, under which Gibraltar was ceded to the UK.
UK officials said that the revisions to the proposed EU visa law would not stop British nationals from Gibraltar being able to travel visa-free “for short stays” to Spain and other countries in the Schengen area after a no-deal Brexit.

So, following Tuesdays vote, and the EU's polite yet firm 'not on yer nelly, Maybot'....
whats next?, whats currently going on? has the weather reporting squeezed actual events off the front page or is there just nothing actually happening right now? I think I saw a report that parliament had zero motions tabled for this week or maybe next week despite there needing to be a lot of brexit planning being discussed that just wasn't happening....
Also they cancels the planned february recess so that MP's could actually be here to do some work right before the crucial deadline, although I also saw it reported that someone important involved in deciding that said that MPs would be in "unless they already had time scheduled to be with their families..." or something like that, so not really.

So, I am new to running, always hated the idea of it entirely. no aspect of it appealed to me.
I tried it on the insistence of a colleague and actually dont mind it as much as I thought I did.
Im unlikely to ever do any proper races as this is mostly to improve health and reduce my 17 stone down a bit, but I have started doing small 5k ish jogs with a neighbour with a view to increasing the distance as we go.
I started on a pair of almost 10 year old adidas climacools but with an old Plantar Fascitis condition rearing its ugly head over xmas again (now almost fixed, unrelated to the jogging as I was eating over christmas not out running and forgetting to replace my walking shoes and insoles early enough) I went to an actual running shop and got a gait analysis done and proper fitted insoles. according to them I didnt need corrective shoes but just the insoles and a pair of firm cushioned trainers. aside from that I have no kit, no idea but a slowly gaining appreciation of the benefits to my fitness to continue.
Are there any nuggets of wisdom you would give your younger self if you were able to? or...me, now? :-)

I don't know the actor, apparently he's well known out there. Could have been targeted because of that, maybe not. Either way, how far away from a news report of an actual lynching are we?
Horrific.

One opinion that was put forward which would solve the problem but really isnt being talked about.
Why doesn't England just leave the UK? is that even possible? then the UK (NI, Wales and Scotland going forward) stays in the EU and everyone (except Londoners) are happy. No?
Then little England can celebrate its fleg and St georges day properly.

As far as I see it...today is only voting on the amendments right?
Maybot is whipping her MP's to getting behind and voting for the Brady amendment, which is the one that says we go back to the EU to get the backstop wording changed to 'Alternative arrangements to be decided'. But she isn't actually putting her name to the amendment because that would mean she couldn't pivot on it later when it doesn't work. The ERG thinks this back stop doesn't go far enough and have already come out and said they are voting against the whip and I believe later/this morning said that they have decided to wait an hour before the vote to make up their minds about whether they are voting for or against that amendment, just to keep everyone guessing. These shenanigans ignore the fact that the EU have said there is no alternative to the back stop or wording of such and therefore no negotiating to be done on the deal if Maybot isnt changing her red lines, which she cant do. (as per Sabine Weyand, Deputy chief negotiator, last night)
All of the above hinges on whether John Bercow actually selects this amendment for vote...Likely he will, imagine there might be uproar if he didn't...
Amidst all that going on, apparently No.10 has said the the government only has a commitment to make a statement by Feb 13th to set out next steps. That's all, meaning there will not necessarily be a two step debate starting on Feb 13th with vote on Feb 14th. E.g. running down the no deal clock appears to be a very likely endgame now and one that the ERG must be frothing about.
While all that was going on yesterday, the government installed mandatory leave to remain for EU cittizens staying for longer than 3 months. Labour in a shock move decided last minute to vote against it but in truly amazing traditional 'missing opposition' form they had 76 labour MPs missing from the vote and the bill passed its second reading by just 63 votes. For balance I don't know how many Tory or other party MPs were there or absent because I am too lazy to find out.
I also found out about the Hungry gap this morning. This is a 4 month period starting in March when the UK cant grow enough fresh food to feed its population and relies heavily on store, frozen and EU imports to feed the nation. Remind me when a hard crash out Brexit starts again?
Is that clear enough for you @pipwish ?
Also, I'm beginning to think Brexit is seriously harming my mental health and I might have to completely disconnect from all electronic devices to be Ok. Seeing as I work at a PC all day this might be difficult to achieve and I have very little will power.
edit: Speeling.

With regards to the border issue I saw this yesterday. Dated yesterday with a timeline of all terrorism related events/news that have happened in NI since the referendum. There has been a marked increase in such activity apparently and admittedly the compiler had accidentally included a few duplicates but despite that, the list is much much longer than we get to hear about in UK press.
I started to read the articles, I got a few in before I realised the sheer number of incidents being reported.
