yeah nik - cosmic, gabes, cam, john H, otto, and bells are up at downs. there were some kids hovering around the edges looking to get on the court when i was leaving (2.45) so its possible they may have moved on to downham or mitch.

cheers to everyone for the games earlier... way out of my depth though, felt like i was more a hindrance than help at times... need a lot more practice. and possibly a new bike.

downs is a nice surface alright, way better court than downham, definitely.

@tom k&e - that route looks great. thanks for that. It might just be the two of us, but Yasi333 also mentioned the train, so maybe more. Either way I've got a network railcard, so the train will be cheap! see you at Liverpool tomorrow. I've got blonde hair and will have a black bianchi volpe touring frame.

I don't think the train crew is going as far as Witham. I thought ee were going to get off in Chelmsford and ride to meet the people riding form London in Maldon at 1pm. The train gets into Chelmsford at 11:02

Okay, So I've made my way through this entire thread, finally, and I don't feel much closer to knowing what lock to get. (Possibly because I am WAY too tired not to think clearly). Anyway,

I currently use a Krypto evo mini (and cable for front wheel) but want to upgrade to a chain or armoured cable as a second (or primary) lock. I am about to get my frame re-sprayed and therefore my bike will look nicer. Currently I sometimes borrow my partner's Abus Steel O Flex, but this thread has me doubting them, plus it's too big for my waist.

All the chains listed here are said to be for leaving (at work or home). I want suggestions on a chain for carrying on my waist. The Almax III 0.7m is only 1kg more than the Steel O flex so don't think it'd be too bad, but is it long enough to get around the lamp posts? And if I add some extra rings/carabiners so it will fit around my waist, are they strong enough to not fail while riding?

Any one have any experience with that? or other suggestions on chains/cables?

Jenny - glad to hear you got your bike sorted out!

it was a great 'mini-slam' for me. All those photos are great! Sorry to have missed out on wests onwards, but we had our own adventures along the way and will definitely be up for it next year again. hopefully actually making it to all the pubs!

Claire managed to get her bike back to Bath, and I'm sure she'll be swapping out the tubs right away!

8am is awful early the morning after Ladies drinks, but I would like to have a decent ride.

I'd favour taking the train to Shenfield or Ingastone and meet up with the group riding in Stock. Essentially doing about half the full ride.

Any idea on what time you'd get to Stock?

Sweet! is there a departure/train time suggested? Trains from liverpool street run half hourly on the hour. Currently can get a "super-off-peak-day-return-group-save" for four people for 35 quid.

cans in St James on Friday the 13th? sounds like a good day...

yes that's me. good eye poots, it is a cinelli hat. I hate to disappoint you bearfoot, they're not skulls. (very often mistaken for skulls though) It's a group of riders from the back. What times in/out were you thinking?

on a separate issue, i didn't really like the way we ran some of those red lights. i RLJ plenty but always when safe and polite to do so. we were taking the piss. only reason i went through every time is i didn't know the route at all so i couldn't afford to lose touch with the front!!

agreed. I really liked the ride, but not all the red light jumping, the not waiting a few seconds to reform the group so everyone got quite spread out and even more unorganized.

the riding into oncoming, over roundabouts, RLJ'ing, going round the roundabout the wrong way and all the other more "dangerous" styles of riding were the effects of having a very fast moving group that was loosely organised.

That may be true, but I don't think it's a valid reason to run a group ride in such a dangerous manner. It'd be different if it had been run in the early morning hours when the roads were already closed, but it was at night with some areas of heavy traffic. I just think a few minor changes and the ride would've been safer and less chaotic for everyone.

That said I had a great time, mostly because a bunch of us ended up forming our own smaller group.

I'd be up for doing the recce ride as well, if it'd help
