Just so you know.....I didn't get the frame sprayed.....I bought it the blue colour.
The previous owner got it sprayed, he just emailed me a pic of the original paint.
I'm pretty gutted too, would have loved the original paint......just one of those things.I've already got one Harden on my rat look Raleigh, the thing spins for ever.
Inch Pitch is proving to be a pain, we'll see how it pans out.
Both the nipples are brass and have just been left. I need to give them a good polish, should look good.

So I've just got a '50 Holdsworth Tornado.......Its been resprayed a blue and cream colour. The paint looks pretty good together and will look good in the summer. I will eventually be getting it resprayed an original colour. So the serial number on the frame is 11184, the frame and forks match.
It also has Chater Lea stamped in the rear drop outs, pretty sweet.
Has anyone got any thoughts or little gems about these frames, can anyone confirm the date?
Does anyone know what would be period correct?
I was thinking:Anything Chater Lea.....crank, chainring(inch pitch), headset, pedals.
Wooden Rims
Something like Harden HubsAnyone got any ideas...parts......or secret supply...
Would appreciate your thoughts....or your parts... :)Also can anyone tell me what BB would go in these, size wise?

Cheers for the threads about that, I forgot to look.....
My Harden Hub came up real good this morning. Got some bits that aren't so good, I'll put up some before and afters when they're all good.
Might actually be able to put up 1 of the 3 builds I've had on the Burner for a while..
Amazing Green '73 Raleigh LTD-SC, wish is going to be standard, simple and a bit stripped down.
The Brown '73 Brown Grand Prix, period high end bits...The bike I rode round Tasmania (just now minus the gears)
And my dream bike....The '50 Holdsworth Tornado undrilled track frame.....This one is going to take a long time to build right...

Hi,
So I've got some 70's Campy hubs and a 50's Harden hub I will be getting laced soon. I wanted to make these and few other pieces shiny before I put them in the wheels.
Has anyone got experience of using the drill mounted aluminium polishing kits you can get from hardware stores.
They are a few mop heads, a cutting compound and a polishing compound.
I wanted to use these on the hubs, an old GB stem and old GB brakes. Does anyone know how to tell if they're raw metal and can be polished?

Alex
I'll put some photo's up of the pieces soon -
Thanks for the details of the gut on Ebay, we'll see what happens there.
I was under the impression the Campy Track hubs were 10x26 rear and 8x26 on the front.
I've got both, but looking at fixing up the rear only at the moment.
Can someone confirm I should be looking for 10x26 cups for the rear hub? Is that the dimension that defines it?
ta -
So I bought a pair of Campy track hubs not long ago. They looked OK and I really liked the style of the older design.
They didn't roll too well but I figured new cones, some grease and all would be good.
Turned out one of the external cones had shattered inside and parts had been rolling round in the hub.
The internal cones are buggered and will mean death for the hubs....
Unless anyone knows of somewhere too get internal cones for a 10x26 70's Campy Track Hub?.....or another solution?
A long shot I know, cheers for the help.

So I'm missing something in my life.
I sold my friend a 1930's single speed malvern star months ago. I shouldn't have done this, it cuts me every time I see it.
My favourite part of the bike was the bars. The steel was so well worn, the patina was amazing! looked real rough, but smooth to the touch.
So I need a pair of old well worn track bars for my old Raleigh. Old steel ones, the more worn the better.
A English brand or old Cinelli's are what I'm after.
Has anyone got some sat out in the shed somewhere?
Thanks
Alex -
Do you mean you don't like it?
I'm making an old English Track Bike. I wanted to keep the parts mostly old school English.
Then I found this stem on an old School 50's/60's tourer............And I'm sure I've read about this stem being made by GB for some reason?
It isn't that one, i got it from an old guy at a swapmeet.
or any other ideas what would have been on a 60's English Track stem?

Morning all,
So I was at a swap meet here in Melbourne when a stem came my way. It is called a "IL PRIMO" Milano on the badge.
It is exactly the same as the one here:http://www.theoldbicycleshowroom.co.uk/c1951-dawes-gentlemans-racing-bicycle-1044-p.asp
Can any one tell me anything about it? Am I dreaming or is GB somehow linked to it?

Hello,
Sorry to bring this subject up again, I know its been done to death....
So I've got an old '78 Raleigh Grand Prix that I bought as a $40 frame. Built her up, rode her round Tasmania and broke her.
Brakes, spokes, tyres and wheels all died on the adventure.
With the tyre completely blowing out 25km from the airport as the sunset on the last day. It was a quality finish, sun setting, riding with 40kg's on the back, with a shredded tyre. Was honestly amazing and funny times.
Anyway, so I'm back in Melbourne and am following through the plan to turn it into a fixie. It's taken a while to get all the old parts I'm after, but pretty much there.
I want to remove the braze ons and rear centre pull brake hanger as I'll never get rid of her, but never ride out of the city again. Wasn't really right for the job. My local bike shop won't take them off without respraying her.
I like the old battered brown paint and won't be getting rid of it. Between a dremel and some fine paper I'll get them off and nice and smooth.
I'm just not sure what to coat the little circles of bare metal with afterwards?
Has anyone seen this done? Spray laquer masked off? brush on varnish? I reckon I can get it looking smooth but don't want the laquer to make it look like a home m=hack job.
Any Idea?

ps just so you know, its bloody freezing in Melbourne, missing the English summer.Hopefully theres a pic of her before the trip....part built

I've all but given up for finding a matching 40/32 poliched 27" clincher set.....think its impossible.
I found these:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310212308227&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Look good, well made. I can get them shipped to Oz for not a lot of $.
Just the hub thats a killer.
The front hub is a keeper: .....just need a rear.
http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/harden-steveg.html
So are you saying that that period English rear hubs only come in 40H, not 32 or 36? regardless of whether they're matching for front?
If thats the case......I'm buggered

Sorry need to jump on this thread. Can't do my own yet...
I need some advice about the same thing. My '78 Brown Raleigh Grand Prix is all sorted apart from a rear hub. Up front I have a 32H Large flange Harden sealed bearing hub.....very nice. I have some wing nuts and some nice polished 27" SUN rims on the way.....
I cannot find a 50's to late 70's English made 36H hub anywhere....Any ideas about what I should look for or where?
It's been a good 2 months....she needs riding.
Cheers
AlexNavarino....sorry about jumping on the thread....bump
For the moment I'm in Mellbourne. I should be back in 'Blighty" soon though.
Why do you ask?
