Massive love for Maxxis Refuse. Was just working out that in 2011 I have a shade over 5000 on my first pair of Refuse 25c, not one puncture and still grip great. They're a bit cut up and have no tread left at all, but I couldn't have asked for more from a tyre. I've been looking to replace them, but they seem to have doubled in price in the last 12 months.
Does anyone have a line on cheap 25c Refuses? Also Open Paves and any old turbo trainer tyres? I'm after a pair of each and normally wouldn't really care too much, but buying all three pairs at once has me wincing at the cost when I'm so skint. I was hoping there'd be better deals around given the Christmas/January sales.

I've tried a bunch of stuff and never had any joy. I have problems with Reynaud's Syndrome so the cold really bothers me, especially with a year round, 15 mile 5am commute.
So far tried Specialized BG gloves, Radiant and Sub Zero, Gore Radiator and Cross II, Rapha town gloves and PS track gloves, all with and without various liners/undergloves.
After poking about in my LBS on Saturday and finding nothing I felt would offer an improvment, I left dissapointed, thinking I was just going to have to stump up the £££ for the Assos 3 glove system thing and hope it wouldn't be money down the pan. Wandered into Aldi and came across a pair of these:

Figured for £5.95, it'd be stupid not to try them.
Yesterday was the first time I've ridden into work since the start of October that I haven't arrived with corpsefinger. And it was hovering around freezing and lashing with torrential rain. They're warmer, much more comfortable, allow slightly more dexterity and seem just as well made as either Gore or Spesh's ultracold offerings. Can't really say how breathable they were because it was cold enough that my hands never got to the point of being hot/sweaty. The cuff thing also comes quite a way up the arm. Looks a little dorky, but it's perfect for someone with ape arms like me that usually rides with a couple of inches of bare skin between glove and jersey/jacket sleeve. Also felt better for having the yellow wrist for indicating.
YMMV, but for under £6, if you have a store nearby and are experimenting, they're worth a punt.
Edit: Only downside so far is they don't have any padding in the palm. But mine are XL and I reckon have enough space to fit a padded summer race style mitt under without problem. I take an X/XL in Spesh, 10 in Gore and L in Rapha leather for comparison.

I got the gold striped imperial works woolly hat. So snug and comfy.
Pics?
Also, do you have access to the Imperial Works range through your website login? I'd be dead interested to see what is on offer, but there seems to be next to no info online about the range or pictures at all. Do you have to sign an NDA when you're inducted into the club or something?
Also interested in the size of the spend required to receive an invite, though I'd be nowhere near and wouldn't likely pay the extra for the products so more just because I'm nosey than anything.

No idea how it happened. I'd cleaned the bike a couple of days before and it was visually perfect. Felt fine on the way out, mashed it up some decent hills without problems. Then one time I get out of the saddle and there was a slight clicking/ticking noise. Sounded just like a squeaking cleat. After a little while, it got worse and I could feel it through my feet if I was out of the saddle and thought it was a loose crank arm maybe fouling the mech. Took it easy, spinning a little gear and no standing for the rest of the ride.
Good news so far though. Can't fault Cyclesense for their service so far. I e-mailed them about 9pm last night with photos and the story. They open at 10am and at 10:04 I had a voicemail asking what frame size it is so they can check stock and tell me how long I'll need to wait for a new one. Big thumbs up.
ETA: I'm 6'6" and 12st 5lb, so not exactly light (ignoring my height), but not exactly clydesdale territory.

My Van Nicolas was feeling a little flexy around the BB on my club ride this Sunday. Investigating when I got back, I saw why!!

Goes virtually all the way round too. I noticed the flex mid ride, so rode maybe another 65 miles back home only a couple of cm of Ti away from having only the seat cluster holding both ends of the bike together...
We'll now get to see just how good the VN/Cyclesense customer service that I was recommending a few pages back really are. Frame's never been in an accident so I should be fine with the lifetime warranty. E-mailed Cyclesense with photos and details and am hoping to hear back today.

This thread backs up the 16nm argument: http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=97106
I went with 16nm, but I'm still waiting on cranks so haven't tried them yet. I have the KEO Sprints on other bikes though and I have them cranked to max tightness which is, I believe, 15nm and thery're nowhere near to being too tight.

If you can speak to these people, they may be able to do the VN frames cheaper than fat birds are offering, fatbirds are also famed for somewhat crap customer service and do not supply VN's fork with their framesets whereas these guys are top notch. Just a though, been looking down the same route too myself (yukon?).
I got my VN from Cyclesense and they were great. I had some problems (new model of Easton hub being supplied with the bike having problems gripping the Ti drop outs) and they were really helpful in getting it sorted, gave me some free skewers to see if that would help, liased with the top guy at VN etc. Ended up getting me a free pair of EA70s and let me keep (ebay) the wheels that came with the bike. Top marks from me.

After bitching so much about how it was going to be a nightmare trying to get these, and it was, I figured I should post a pic. It transpired, after the fact, that there were a decent amount to go around anyway and it needn't have been such a drama, but niether I nor the anyone else knew that at the time.

I want more for off the bike use. Just waiting until there is a special/sale.
Although, there was someone that posted here about putting their finger through one and I scoffed (in my head) and thought 'how could you do something so silly? They're not that thin'. Then a few days later, when grabbing the end of the sleeve to keep it in place when I pushed my arm into a long sleeved jersey, I popped my thumb through the sleeve. D'oh.

Rapha. I'm awful when it comes to finding clothes itchy...have never been able to bear to have any wool product on bare skin. The Rapha ones were a little bothersome at first, but way better than most things I've ever tried and after a couple of washes they're now essential wear on every ride. I've tried some of the cheaper alternatives that I couldn't get on with, but not any of the other 'premium' products like Howies etc, they may be just as good. If you can get them in a sample sale, the Rapha baselayers are one of the very best clothing purchases you could ever make.

Could you report back as to how successful the reproofing is? I am in the same position and would be keen to know if works out.
I can confirm after 101 miles of constant drizze and light showers, riding in a pack with a handful of people without mudguards that the Nikwax does indeed work. I've not worn the jacket in proper heavy rain since doing it, but I know that after 30 seconds the unproofed jacket would have been sodden through under the conditions I was in on Sunday. As it was, I was dry all day long. One of my favourite bits of kit just got better!

These are only £15 new from Rapha at the moment? Probably have to add postage onto that, mind.
