I had the same thing when I put a new chain on it. Drove me mental trying to work out what it was, but eventually it just shut up.

It could partly be stiff links (see http://bicycletutor.com/stiff-chain-link/ - loosening by hand is enough). Otherwise yes, riding will make it shut up eventually.

Should be ok without lube, bear in mind the sprocket and chainring are worn in and the chain won't be, so it might sound like shit for a while while the chain sorts itself out (well, it did last time I changed my chain but it wasn't a great chain).

It's not loose enough for a shim, the fit is fine but the clamp just isn't holding it tight enough. Have done it as tight as I could, at the expense of shearing. If it doesn't hold will have to try and remove the bolt completely and put a different sort in. Maybe.

Sheared the bolt on the "integrated seat clamp" because however tight I do it, the saddle sinks into the frame. Might need technical help…

I live and work centrally, can arrange a viewing any time within reason.

It's a compact frame, supposedly equivalent to 54cm. I'm 5' 7" and it's slightly too big for me, but not unrideably so. It would probably best suit someone 5'9 - 5'11.

Fridays are for riding in the dark, cold and rain. Sunday is all about ending up in a pub with a hearty lunch, not about soggy bike clothes.
