Is this too technical for a cross bike?
Probably be ok, the book this ride is from seems to be fairly family oriented, shall we say, but I haven't done it before. I'll try and post scans of the route tommorow and you can judge for yourself. mmcarthy will presumably be on a single speed rigid so if he can handle it on that...

Reposting this from two weeks ago. Got a mate from off the forum coming along.
Ok, I'll be getting the 1000hrs train from Waterloo to Guildford on Sunday morning. 16 mile ride, extendable to 30 if that seems too easy. Tell me if you're coming so we can do Groupsave if possible. Engineering works have been checked and aren't affecting the fast service. Flapjacks will be provided.

My housemate Kat saw the immediate aftermath of this, which is on her commute. Cyclist apparently had obvious head injuries and a visibly broken leg. The car driver who'd hit him was crying and talking to the police. Kat is of the opinion the junction is poorly designed at that the car probably SMIDSY'd the bike; I'll see if I can get the details out of her.
To echo the views of those above, I hope the air ambulance is a sign the rider survived.

Inside the M25! Nicest way is the train - super quick from central. this is probably the most pleasant way by bike, but if you don't mind the horror of it all, I'd do the Old Kent Road/A20 to Lewisham, then the A21 down. Quick and (very) ugly.
Ha, I do A2/A20/A21 every day, it's not that bad. I did start that route when I was really unfit though, and it's sole purpose was to be as flat as possible. I should probably look at something more direct and quiet now.

Good to meet you crazy northerners. Apologies for having to cry off early, you're clearly much more hardcore up there. I'll have to turn up later next time & test out those pizzas.
Left my water bottle in the pub. If anyone's picked it up and is coming to the Clacton ride or Souths next week that would be cool.

look at the train operators website.
southwest and southern both run trains on that route.Helpfully the Southwest trains website advises I use the national rail journey planner to avoid the engineering works, which insists the Waterloo-Guildford fast service is fine on Sunday. I might have to phone them tomorrow to check.

My ride on Sunday should be pretty easy, and isn't going to be at a mad pace as I'm inexperienced, and Owain has been off the bike for moths after getting doored on his commute.
