I love Era's.
I've broken with tradition though and ordered a pair of these. I hope they're not rubbish.

Another pair? really? considering you only spend half your time on dry land and most of that cycling you have a hefty number of shoes!
Me, I'm all about the Hi Tecs one wear out to a club to take the sheen off them and get the suede good and grey, job done.

Asking questions on an internet forum that could be answered by a cursory use of google
I did google it, but it wouldn't have set up my 'kids today are soft, when I was young I played with knives' type grump quite so well.
I'll accept fail for the misplaced question mark though.

maybe so you can easily countdown the number of seconds remaining rather than passed?
i'd say exactly that, the start of a sailing race is one of the most frantic chaotic few minutes its possible to get! why risk it? think of it as a sailing chronograph rather than a watch that does race starts. its not the minutes that are in reverse its the seconds.
Moern sailing watches still countdownown, just digitally. and with HUGE great big digits
how do you tell if its solid gold or plated? there are a couple of tiny nicks in it no colour change?

And the Glasgow/Edinburgh lot are a bunch of boring bastards.
