For those who've not seen the Sunday Times today...
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/more_sport/cycling/article7131677.ece
Also interesting that the BBC website kept LA out of the story at first blush, until they were effectivly forced to by the other news organs.

As a man who has TOTALLY failed to get his arse into gear for any of the past 12 DD's, due to my total incompetence, work etc.... but have always lurked on the subject. The above reference to a thermos flask is, WITHOUT DOUBT, the best ever advice for anything, ever in the universe..... I am trying to work out how many sausages you can get in a thermos flask.... do you think they used party sized, or an over-sized thermos.... *** goes to kitchen to investigate ***

@minus - why not?
It's all good clean wholesome fun.... well most of it, some of it is a bit weird though..... ;-)

I popped into On Yer Bike @ London Bridge y'day - coincidentally the Trek sales rep's were in handing out free dog-nuts and tortilla chips.
We started talking SS (me and the rep, not me and the tortilla chips).
They were extolling the virtures of the Trek 2010 District Carbon, at £2,700.
They showed me a picture.
I said I really didn't like it as the bottle cage bolts annoyed me, destroying the clean lines of the frame.
They all laughed - a lot.
An awful lot.

^ further earlier posts.... I've had a drink, and it doesn't look a great deal better...... I've decided that Radio 3 turned up really loud is the way forward, and if I ignore all forms of mass media, and stick my fingers in my ears and go La La La La.... it'll all be better in the morning........Hic!

Great speech by Brown - I'd argue what ever your political views, nicely judged, and towards the end looked more relaxed than I can remember him ever looking as Chancellor or PM.
Now it's all sorted, can we move along now please?
Nothing to see.....
Oh hang on, posh smug git getting into a car....
*** yawns *** reaches for the corkscrew.... ****

I also doubt that the sale of stolen bikes on here is a 'big' problem on here, however as I'm sure every cyclist would acknowledge there is a real issue outside this forum around bike thefts, and the subsequent sale of stolen bikes on the internet.
Complaints of course only coming from those unhappy; and as with most trades most unhappiness relates to the final transaction price when the true worth of the goods is known, rather than the goods themselves.
As per my earlier post this would be one way for the Forum to lead on bike crime, demonstrating 'best practice'.... so at best it would grow the interest in the For Sale area through legitimate interests AND would shame other online sales sites to take bike theft seriously.
At worst it would mean a little extra work for sellers; one more picture uploaded.
I'm sure like you Sir, I would be very interested in others comments and views.
Bests,

Another way of tackling this problem might be to ‘encourage’ that….
**
All frames & bikes offered for sale through LFGSS to state the frame number, alongside a photograph of said frame number, in any advertisement. If there is no frame number this should be clearly stated, and an explanation given.**
If we are as a community to start taking a real stand against bike crime – instead of just moaning about it - there can be no clearer way of proving the provenance of the bikes traded through the site.
It would also build up a history of oft traded bikes/frames that would help if/when they get nicked. It would go on to build, by default, a searchable database for frame numbers, via external search engine of the sort of bikes we as a forum like.
It would be good for the forum, attracting more legitimate buyers, and sellers – and be a clear stand against the policy of other sites.
Yes it would be a small bit of extra agro for sellers – but if the policy attracts more legitimate trade so much the better.
And for those thinking of importing, or buying a bike unseen, will give extra piece of mind.
There will be those that argue that as everyone on here has an ‘identity’ to post then that helps to legitimise the trades… we as a forum could always go one stage further…
Yours controversially running something up the flagpole….

Done it twice...
once for a mate: it was his 4th, her 2nd, and the wedding had been postponed due the death of their giant poodle, couldn't mention any of this: speech over in 5 mins (including reading the cards, and the toast.. everyone very happy)
secondly for my best mate from school, when his wife hated me so much he had to have two best men, and I got the chance to introduce the wedding cake, again, speech over in 5 mins... everyone very happy.
Seriously... you have your speech in all the above postings.... it's virtually written for you.... you say a little about your mate, how writing the speech was difficult, you sought advice from your friends... quote a few funny stories from above... read cards... sit down.
Fixed.
Other great tips above I'd totally agree with include type it double spaced, big print (do two copies in case you lose one!), and don't get hammered before hand.... oh, and don't mention the word cock. It was funny when you wrote it, won't be funny when you read it.
Good luck, it's really not as scary as you might think if written out before hand, and practiced a couple of times in front of bathroom mirror!
