My partner also is keen on the idea of chase chase chase. Although things are ticking along fine so I've managed to limit her to one "update" phone call so far.
I got home and it turns out that she had called them again god dammit :')
They gave her some useful info on progress. Turns out that they have been working.
I feel better for knowing re: progress +next steps , but I was aware that things were progressing anyway. Hey ho

The vendors of the place we're buying responded within 24 hours of our request to reduce the asking price in light of the dry rot etc
Agreed to reduce to £220k from £230k. And mortgage company happy to lend us the difference to put towards remedial works.
Surprisingly painless, EA said they were understanding about the situation and obvs weren't aware of it.
So now just to crack on with the conveyancing stuff, buildings insurance then we should be good to go

Big house for the cash.thats a big roof and will cost a few Bob to replace - is it in good nick ?
Full structural survey reveals roof slates all present but in poor condition, some evidence of water ingress , poor ventilation (throughout the house but in the loft spaces particularly) and dry rot affecting the rafters (no fungating mushrooms or anything but the wood crumbling away when picked at by hand)
Soo...
The roof pretty much needs replacing basically...
So that was a good shout!
Going to try negotiate down the price in view of that.
Question: Could I take out the same mortgage amount but pay a lower price to the vendor if they agree, and keep the now extra money to carry out the work straight away?
