Cool, glad to hear that! Yeah I thought the geo looked good for front loading but I'm a bit put off by the lack of eyelets and the thru-axle. Though I think with the Escapade frame is available without forks.
I should see how much a framebuilder would charge to either add some more braze-ons to a fork, or to build a new one...
-
@tm Hah! Noted!
@hamrack That is really much more elegant. I looked at drilling the rack stays (whatever you call it!), but didn't think it was doable, my mudguard mounts are the big, fat, not even flat kind :(
Like these:

Also how do you find the Cotic? Considering one in the event that I can't find my first choice of frame in the right size...

Gamoh was indeed maximum fiddles. Mudguards are on P-clips as the bolts that come with the rack weren't hugely long either. I may whip them all off later in the week and stick a dab of loctite on, once I've bought some.
Steering doesn't feel too bad, but I cannot wait to eat shit in twisty streets of the Netherlands. Glad I flipped & raised the stem now. Zero Scoblebricks = so comfort.

@gabes That looks mint, not that I would know what to do with it! Are you gonna be doing a thread/write up for your trip?
@TM Cool cool, I'll see how I get on over the weekend! Be nice to finally get the thing fitted after tripping over it for a couple of weeks.

Subbed!
I've got 37c Vittoria Randonneur Pros on my commuter, which are reasonably comfy and tough as old boots, but probably quite heavy.
If you want nice nice, I think Compass do a couple of 700c tyres.

See when you put it like that it's fairly obvious, but I didn't really manage to make the jump myself!
And it's daft that I don't apply the same level of scrutiny to cars, for example. I have never (or ever known of an acquaintance) experienced a sudden, catastrophic failure of brakes on a car. Small leaks that are caught by an MOT or service, sure. But that's the infrequent maintenance you mentioned.

Meh. No 2014 framesets to be had by my LBS (who would've hooked me up with a discount), so have got a wanted ad up in the classifieds, and will be scouring ebay. They're still available online but would prefer a used bargain to help keep some costs down...
-
I'm in the market for a Croix De Fer frameset, or even just the frame alone!
Size 52cm, and I'm after the 2014 model - 2013 & 2015 geometries aren't compatible with what I have in mind, and the 2015 is likely out of my price range anyway!
I'd need it packaging up & sending to Sunderland unfortunately, but I'm open to considering prices that reflect the faff that goes in to this, and I can organise courier collection too :)
Keen to hear what might be on offer!
-
Seem a bit porky, and not hugely wide? The price is right though!
@Brookly_Bay That's awesome! How's it treating you?
@beenbrun Cheers for the info! Good to know about Spa - wonder if they'll do a 650b one..
Gonna see how I get on with front loading - have read plenty of anecdotes in favour of either method but it seems logical to try it first. The rear loading option will always be there, but if I don't replace the forks straight off the bat then doing so later will be faff.

While I wait to see if my LBS can get hold of a 2014 Croix frameset, what should I be considering regards rims?
Looked at the Pacenti TL28 originally as they're currently pretty cheap on PlanetX, though only in 32 holes. Not sure if I'd be best off with 36 holes?
Velocity Blunts also look interesting, they're currently slightly pricier.
I'd assumed there'd be more options for 650b disc-specific rims from the MTB world, but I'm not really sure what constitutes a good/suitable rim so would love some advice! I'm sure there's plenty I'm missing.

Are bumps allowed? Well, I'm bumping anyway cos I reaaaallllyyy want/need to build something up!
Lemme know what you've got! Willing to pay reasonable quids for a good frame - let's negotiate!
