Up and down Ventoux yesterday. The mountain seemed pretty daunting as it loomed on the horizon, and I was starting to worry the two months I’ve just spent in Denmark with basically zero climbing were going to do me in, but in actual fact I reckon they made for pretty good training. I climbed solo from Bedoin and got up in 1:24. The fact the gradient never really kicks makes it much more manageable than I was expecting and the descent into Malaucene was spectacular.

Currently driving to the south of Framce so am not watching live alas. It’ll be very exposed I imagine though perhaps splits will happen sooner. Normally it’s closed to cyclists - I imagine all the barriers will just be left open for the caravan and convoy. Will be amazing if a train runs at the same time! Looking forward to watching the highlights.

EF bus was heaving in the paddock yesterday. Reckon these utility vests will be going for silly money on eBay soon Not much going on with Jumbo Visma other than a lot of Pringles witnessed. I was watching on the first corner - crowds were huge though once Jonas had gone round a lot of home fans left - the rain was atrocious. The bridge will be fun I hope. I drove over it last night, it costs around £30 - worth every penny

Cheers Andy. Yeah I’m on and off the brakes, I’m pretty light so gravity works less viciously on me than bulkier riders.
Likewise @Kurai, thanks for the intel

I've been in Denmark the last two months and am going to be down in the south of France for two weeks in early July. I'm planning to ride Ventoux and the Tourmalet. I have my steel Serotta with 35mm lightbicycle carbon rim brake wheels. with me in Denmark at the moment. I've used these wheels a lot in the Lake District and they got pretty scorchio descending some of the more lairy climbs there but obviously the south of France is considerably more lumpy. Is it madness to descend Ventoux and Tourmalet on these/is it worth getting my partner to post a set of alloy wheels I have at home over in advance? She could also bring them with her on the plane when she comes to visit though it's quite a faff obviously.

Bumping an ancient thread. I’ve never really had issues with my Achilles before but the last week or so I’ve started feeling my left one and perhaps my right a little too. It’s not a pain but more a kind of tightness predominately on the inside of the achilles. There’s no visible swelling or any squeaking and I am able to walk on it fine - it feels like a niggle at most. I typically average 250-300km a week and this hasn’t really changed in a while so it’s not like I’ve suddenly increased my mileage. Though I had some knee issues towards the end of last year following a crash and took all of January off the bike, though since February I’ve been back to my regular weekly distance. I’ve also been using the same shoes and cleat set up and bike and saddle height as I’ve used for ages. I can’t really tell if it’s tendonitis or something milder. I’ve been icing and take anti inflammatories and also started doing eccentric calf raises in case it is a strengthening issue. Any other thoughts or suggestions welcome!

Cheers @fredtc. I almost @‘d you cos I thought you’d probably have a pretty decent take on it.

Any thoughts on this? EPS v2, power meter and shamal Mille wheels. Frame seems lightly used and despite Legend frames each being custom geometry and build looks fairly standard…

@PhilDAS any progress with your Walty?

Also bikes swing around like sheets in the wind, the wheel hooks are basically metal with minimal padding and if you have any kind of deep rim it's a nightmare to get your front wheel hooked on and off. Plus the stupid lowering arm that is designed to separate the two bikes but instead just thumps against both frames as the trains sway on their decrepit rails. I travel frequently by GWR and they are abject. GWRAD bring back the guard's van

And then today, Denmark. What a wonderful country it is. Even when inadvertently and unexpectedly finding myself on a lengthy section of gravel on brand new 25c GP5000 clinchers it was hard to not be awed by the majesty of the place. An abundance of space and the cleanest air I have ever inhaled. Was terrified of a puncture and/or slamming on the gravel, my HR monitor went into overdrive. I needn’t have worried, the tyres showered themselves in glory.

Good luck!
