I've an Izumi chain with one of these:-

Fitting it was easy enough; though I suspect that removal will be trickier.
Is there a special knack to getting this on and off, or do I just force it and hope for the best?

A return to the cool classification could still be possible - the addition of some drop bars and minor chain adjustment would be a good start.
At this point I must point out that I am not qualified to give 'cool' advice. I am a nerd who frequents bicycle forums. I don't even own skinny jeans.
Ta for the straightforward comment, it's rather reassuring. Introducing oneself around here is fraught with danger.
I've got drops on my geared bike; though I always ride up on top of 'em so I figured I'd not invest in the extra metal for this one. As it is the new handlebars have a bit too much flex in them, which is obviously not cool. They also throw me a bit too far forward, but I'm generally pleased to have arrived at a reasonably good fit off the bat.
I've never understood Skinny jeans. I'm of the demographic for whom baggy jeans are cool. Sorry. I've recently considered the age at which either trendy gear becomes middle-aged clothing, or the age at which people should stop togging up in the latest threads. Results are inconclusive. My hair is symmetrical.
As for the caustic language, I love my new bike and up your bum and thank you very much for pointing out the need for a chain adjustment. I will fix it this evening.
Thanks again.

My bike looks like this:-

I've got this niggling feeling that I'm not very cool.

What started off with "Looking for a cheapy frame with mudguard eyelets" ends with a potential trip to Southampton this weekend to look at frames, specifically a Gunnar Street Dog.
I initially set out to fix myself up with a modest bike for getting about town, having replaced my recreational road bike late last year. All of a sudden, and I can't concentrate for thinking about bicycle frames.
Not rational, no.
Any thoughts on the frame?
