Today I took part in my first hill climb up Harris End Fell (Lancashire). Sat at the bottom looking up I thought I was going to be sick. Just over 5 minutes later I was at the top (somehow I thought the top was further so continued cycling past the finish flag), a glorious view was to be seen at the top, sunshine, blue skies & lungs that felt relief at not having to continue uphill. Turns out I was fastest female & came 10th overall (out of 16, but still managed to beat some guys). This time last year I would never have dreamt about doing something so ridiculous.

I decided to treat myself to a new pair of bib shorts for the 100 mile ride I did on Sunday, typically they didn't turn up till Monday so today was their first test day. I ended up buying the howies women's bib shorts, &, they are amazing. No silly shiny lycra, a reassuring fit round the thighs, no silicon round the legs but no riding up either & the chamois pad...it is easily the most comfortable chamois I have used yet. There was no bunching up anywhere, less padding at the front but plenty where it is needed. The best bit is also no stupid pink or pastel nonsense!
I will definitely buy another pair when I can afford to.
As for the "chamois panties"...the chaffing would surely be an issue, don't think I would want to test the theory out though...ouch!

CRB/DBS checks are currently non-transferable between workplaces. At the moment I have two for different places, even if you transfer department in the same workplace a new check has to be carried out. There has been talk of making them transferable in the future, but it will probably be a long time off.
Looking forward to a "plain" jersey...even if it makes me boring that I don't want shark pits/unicorns etc.

hoefla, I have the dhb Aeron bibs & they're pretty good. The chamois is not too thick but I haven't had any issues with it bunching up, the straps stay put under your jersey, & they seem to be fairly true to size which helps with ordering. Saying that I'd like to give the howies bib shorts a go but may wait till autumn before purchasing.

Howies have finally made some womens bib shorts. Unfortunately only in one size at the moment & I don't have the moneys to try them yet...

Up North the weather was smashing! Lots of sunshine & warmth was to be had.
Setting off from Preston we headed northwards for Lancaster, travelling along a stunning country lane by the canal/river. Fields full of growing calves, lambs & buttercups. Somewhere around Caton we stopped for a brew in a biker cafe. Here I noted everyone on two wheels wears strange clothing - bikers in their leathers, cyclists in their lycra.
Another few miles onwards we finally reached our destination - Ingleton. A village of outdoor activities, caving, climbing, hiking, waterfalls, somewhere I would very much like to spend some time & explore. Here we replenished our energy reserves with what could easily be a loaf of bread, several tins of beans, & a shops worth of cakes consumed between us all.
Then for the journey back - hills, hills & more hills, up over Quernmore. For some strange reason I think I may be starting to enjoy hills...at least, I'm getting better, or I was having a good legs day...Scorton, we stopped for ice cream, oh it was good! The best £1.50 spent in a long while, delicious, creamy, MASSIVE ice creams. Then it was home time. Tired, weary head & legs, but happy & content.

Any chance of arranging ones in the New Year for school holidays? I would love to do one of these but weekdays are going to be tricky. (also super advance notice would be good for train bookings)
