It gave me a burst of love for cycling again and the 3 mile ride to where I work was lovely apart from I had to keep spitting blood out. zak had a cheaper bicycle that was stolen from his house in dalston about 3 weeks before aswell.
shahan:

Shahan lives closer to zak and I asked him to ride it and drop it off. Me and shahan only work together on friday and tuesday. On tuesday we both came to work on brand new bicycles! I guess that ride gave us both ideas lol. He bought a gitane from daycocks. I bought a gt aggressor xc3 from halfords.
For about a month I was nagging manzur to get a bicycle

Manzur saved up and bought this gitane 1.4
Those 3 are my collegues.
Manzur then told his friend zaid to get a bicycle and he got a cheap secondhand bike for 50 quid last monday. It's quite heavy and he struggled quite abit. He hasn't ridden a bicycle for a long time also.
looks like a harlem.I met said once or twice on car cruises in totenham.
Said got rob to come with us on this ride and I havent met him before. He now plans to get MT or Road bike for the next ride which is great. It was very tough for him and the seat was so low.

photo's of our journey. Eveeyone arrives in stoke newington. The guy on the left lives in dalston. I live in hackney wick. guy on the far right and middle guy further back are from edmonton. the guy on the left of the bunch is from finchly and the guy on the right is from clapton. the boys from edmonton and finchly got the train to seven sisters lol.

I thought I would come back and start from the beginning. PS. sorry I keep forgetting it's 2010!
I use to have a bicycle years ago, but the ebarings went and I stopped. Then I bought a Aprilia RS 125 and rode that.
In Jan 2009, I bought a Konda Kikapu 9 2007 for 450 from Wiggle, new but an older model. I saved about 300 quid because it was 2 years old.

I had it for 3 days and I locked it up with my D lock near work, and after 2 hours I came back to see nothing left of it. I didn't have insurance and I didn't have the frame number and neither did wiggle.
I was extremely gutted and was put off with cycling completely. The bike had only been ridden 3 times :(
To make things worse, my lights came in 2 days later because it was 5 days delivery lol. I did however say, hmm I'll need a bike one day or it would be a waste.
I came home with a WTB seat atleast! I called it my 450 quid seat :p
For about 1 year I had a hole in my wisdom tooth. The pain was unbearable by this point even with co codamol and clove oil (nasty taste btw urgh). This was in November and everyone told me to get it sorted.
I work in well street hackney and got a lift to stoke newington to have an emergency appointment in stoke newington at my managers dentist.
Here's a pic after I went to the dentist to get it out. 3 injections later and it was out. I havent uploaded a photo of my tooth but queen elizabth 1 would be proud lol.

It wasn't cheap at 140 quid either!
I had no means of transport so went into the other branch (blue opticians in the photos in the first post)
I borrowed the white raleigh chinook dd from zak:

Wow lots of replies. All very helpful. Thank you ladies and gents if I made you happy or you enjoyed this thread :D
I'm scrolling up to reply to each one so it may come out quite confusing. Sorry for that!.
@ clefty Thanks clefty for introducing CM to me, I would love to go on a ride at a pace I can keep up. I'm useless with directions and atleast I won't have to worry about getting elft behind and lost. I'll check on google maps how far it is :)
@ tommy Yeah I found that site Tommy, I planned to go last time but my bike didn't get much use so I passed. Now my chain or sounds funny, my front whell has a sort of squeeking noise and changing gear is quite a loud clunk (sp)
I have my 6 week halfords check up on wednesday. I bought the bike on the 22nd of november and was told the 1st of Feb is the earliest date. I called again today because my suspension lock broke from that fall and the manager said no warranty because I missed my 6 week free check up. I made a fuss that one of your staff members told me the 1st of february and that is the date in my diary. He then said wednesday so I'm happy, but I will likely have to pay for the part.
I'm looking forward to learning how to do all the maintenence indeed. I love being able to do practical things and helping people :)
I shall get advice from them about these bikes. Nothing quite like talking face to face :)
@ matty. I'm looking into getting secondhand really. I do have 500 quid, but it is also a lot of money for me and It would be wise for me to not spend that much because my moutain bike total is about the same and I just wouldn't be able to justify spending a grand in total. Perhaps in the summer I hope!
My boss recently bought a felt z100 from my sisters boyfriends uncles pawn shop sucks in air lol. It's a road bike with gears but It was so lovely to ride and light. This has sort of made me jealous and I do want a faster road bike indeed.
Oh and not patronising at all mate. I did pump my tyres in the morning and bought a pump from halford with a gauge. I had to use it 2 week ago on sunday in the dark and luckily i bought a puncture kit the day before lol.
@edmundro, what sort of frame etc did you use please. I'd like to have an idea on what I could maybe start off with. Thanks buddy. Why did they last 8 and 9 months aswell please.@chayser, Glad you got to have your new bike after 6 mnoths of ahrd work buddy. Thumbs up for that :D New is out of reach for me ATM, but I understand that buying new has lots of benefits in terms of lasting. I wouldn't really trust a second hand bike without asking anyone on here now. You guys have a lot of knowledge and this forum is a great source for info and there are quite a few funny people too! lol
One thing that made me think was the expense of tyres etc. How many miles do they last? I did a wikipedia search and was amazed at the skidding. Pretty cool but costly.
@scraggie borsha I would love to have a bike that would last 50 years hehe. I bet the lighter materials in bikes increase the price up quite abit so it will have to be solid steel!
@edric64, yes the guy on the BMX found it very hard indeed. He slwoed us down quiter abit, but on the way back I swapped with him because he was walking and clearly fidning it hard. He also didn;t ride his bike for 3 years where as I have been riding since the 22nd of November. It was very hard work for me and we were going down hill toward Stoke Newignton, so he must have had a hard time and been exhausted by night lol.
Apologies for spelling and especially if I typed your names wrong.

Well done for getting out there and having some fun.
Hope you stick at it...maybe tag along on some forum rides?I was planning to try and join the big ride from somewhere to central London. I forgot now but the ride where 140 planned to join but only 35 did. Bridge I think it was called.
I have to admit I chickened out, not ebcause of the snow but mainly because of the distance. I only ever really did 10MPH before and 3 miles isn't much.
However I reached an average of 15MPH yesterday and even got up to 27.6 downhill :D
I am planning a ride each month with these guys and maybe more, and then when I'm comfortable I will definitely try to keep up with you guys on rides :)
-
I'm planning to go longer distances for sure. I have only ever done a round trip of maybe 3 miles before, so doing 4 miles there and return was a step I wasn't sure of. I ended up riding 15 miles in total which I'm quite happy about. I know it's not a lot for maybe all of the guys on here, but you gotta start somewhere I guess.
One day when I can afford it, I'll look at getting a roadbike or a single speeder. Someone said I really need to spend 500-800 for something that will last and be good. :s
I was a little sore today and was extremely exhausted by 11PM, so maybe a few more months and I can try to do a ride with you guys.

5 Mountain bikes and 1 BMX lol. It was the first ride I have arranged and for all of us aswell. We didn't want to go too far incase we couldn't handle it.
I never noticed single geared bikes until this forum, but I saw plenty yesterday. Weird how I never paid attention before :o

That's us, maybe some of you saw me? I know a few ride pass Stoke Newington.
I'm on the far right.
We reach London Bridge. Fairly slow because Rob, the black guy had a BMX.

We reach Tower Bridge. It's lovely there.
I try to do a stunt below and it kinda works and fails lol. I havent done a jump ever before mind.

yes, joining a site that said 'singlespeed' does throw you off a bit.
Yeah I know :p
I am abit of a numpty!
My lack of observation on gears on these bikes is abit worrying though :o
I'm still browsing here ebcause it's a busy bicycle forum and local to london. I can't find a good MTB one for London :s Any ideas anyone?
BTW how much does a single speed set up cost? A decent one. I have no idea on brands

check the weather if the snow holds out your 10mph and knobbly tyres might be just the ticket. dress sensibly and search for the hero.
caveat: if i do it this will also be my first bridges ride so everything i have said above might be nonsense.
What do you mean by search for the hero? Sorry I don't know if it's a drug, drink or bicycle related lol.
I did enjoy my ride home in the snow today I must admit. I know that the ice will be very dangerous tomorrow however :s
-
everyone is invited to ride but please bear in mind that the pace is a little faster outside central london and the ride can take up to 3-4 hours depending on stoppages for punctures and food etc.
Wow I didn't even think about how long it would take. What speed do you think is average outisde and inside? I have only ever ridden to work and home when I bought mny bicylce. I haven't had any punctures yet, fingers crossed.
If you haven't done more than 3 miles before this ride might be a bit much, as the route is about 22 miles + whatever distance you have to cycle to get there/home....
I was thinking to take my bicycle on the train because I live in Hackney and riding to the start location looks about 15 miles from me as a guess when looking at the map. Yes it does seem quite a difficult journey for me. Perhaps I should start small alone and look at these rides when I get fitter.
Thanks for your help guys.

MMMMM ICECREAM"! gurkin building behind us. London is lovely. Not too tall here but so much character.
