Radcliffe, until this broke was trying to get on the IAAF panel for cross country (if she already hasn't).... Cram, Radcliffe and Coe all work in some capacity for Nike, Cram, Radclife and Foster all work for the BBC, it's a very small group of people with an awful lot of say in the uk

Agree. Her first four words in that article are "as a professional athlete". The rest of the article then seems to set out to prove otherwise.

Some rudimentary googling suggests the Ancona split ferry leaves at 8;15 local time. Rider is still about 25-30k away.

If my googling is right it is going to be a tight squeeze for him to catch the ferry.

And presumably your average speed after a 10h45 sleep is higher than if you had simply powered on.

But if it doesn't shorten the route that doesn't help. Could equally book into a cheap motel and sleep there for the same number of hours as the ferry crossing.

For the ferry to be advantageous must be the case you can either ride less miles or less hills.

Does the ferry reduce the amount of climbing? Looks pretty lumpy up on the Slovenia Italy border.
