This is true.
If you have the heart and lungs of a club cyclist and you suddenly take up running you will be able to put a lot of power through your legs for a sustained period of time. But that creates a problem. The supporting muscles around your knees, ankle, calf will not be ready for it. Over use injury is likely, especially if you are older than about 25.

We are used to seeing people swapping into cycling at the top level in other situations.
Rowers become Olympic track riders.
Roglic moved over from ski jumping.Maybe Jakub is simply one of those people. If he has done multiple mutli-day foot races and had prior mountain bike skills why shouldn't he do well in this race?

How does scratching work in this race? I assume that in something like the TCR people ring the organisers to tell them they are dropping out then cycle to the nearest town with a train station. In western Europe that will typically be 30k or less. Absent a very bad injury (broken bones or the like) that is doable.
But in this race is there anyway to drop out other than riding to either the end or the start, whichever is closer? That could be hundreds of Kms across very tough terrain.

In summer 2005 I set myself the target of running a sub-40min 10k and a sub 1:30 half. Over the years my enthusiasm for this has waxed and waned and the closest I have ever gotten was about 40:30 and 1:32 about eight years ago.
15 years have passed since I set those objectives and now I find myself on the wrong side of 40, so if I am ever going to hit these times it needs to be this year. Is this at all realistic?
Edit: today's run for some context of how I am going at the moment.
