What do you mean @TerryA? You think they feel less sturdy?

Thanks @fidbod! Posted there. I also think the original CB has lovely parts, but wanted to go for single speed over having lots of gears (not used gears in so long, I won't know what to do with them).

Hi guys
I'd really appreciate some advice on getting a bike off eBay.
I'm selling my Mercian to get a more practical bike that I can comfortably fit mudguards, a rack and have a slightly more upright position (due to back issues). Most interest seems to be for the frame anyway! I have been looking at Mixtes and found this Claud Butler on eBay which looks like a great price for a lovely bike. (I also have an eye on this Dawes but the first frame seems a lot nicer)With that in mind, I'd be looking at keeping most components from the Mercian build and putting them onto this CB - is that doable? Or do I need to get full measurements for everything on the other bike? I didn't build my bike so a bit clueless on that front...
Thank you, thank you in advance! :)

PS: I had a search to see if there's a thread for these questions but didn't find one, hope I'm not duplicating topics.

@brother, @Engineering101, @Skülly still interested in your dibs?
Otherwise I might have to take this to gumtree...
-
OK, it (sadly for the beautiful build) is going for a split...
If all the 1st dibs are still valid:
@deek - frame/forks, BB, cranks, chainring, pedals, headset and seatpost
@palethrough - wheelset
@Brother - stem, bars, brake (caliper?)I have added the individual prices above.
This leaves brake levers, chain, locking, tyres.

Hey @Skülly someone's already put a dibs on the cranks, but will keep this thread updated if it ends up being a split and to update with more photos.
-
-
Added a couple more photos @deek but quite hard to show the paint wear in a photo, but can try take more photos in tomorrow's daylight. (not sure what you mean re brake holes).
Will also consider swap or part swap for a Brompton M2 or 3.

1977 Mercian 50cm Fixed
Seat Tube: 50cm ctt
Top Tube: 52cm ctcLovely Mercian that I have been riding for just over a year, selling only due to needing something more practical. I bought it off this forum and was newly built at the time with some very nice parts. Really lightweight bike & nice quiet, smooth ride. Ideally looking to sell complete, but will see if I'll split depending on interest. (As I'm keeping the saddle and leather grip tape, they're not included in price.)
Pickup/view ideally from Brixton or nearby. (Can also bring it to central London for sale)
Frame & Forks: Mercian Reynolds 531 butted frame, forks & stays
Headset: Campagnolo
Bottom Bracket: Campagnolo
(£170 for f+f, headset, bottom bracket)Cranks: Campagnolo Strada (£45)
Chainring: Campagnolo 42T (£15)
Bars: Nitto Drop (£30)
Stem: Nitto Dynamic 8 (£25)
Wheels: 700C Specialized hubs on deep v Alex rims, 120mm rear drop outs (£100 incl Gatorskin tyres and quite new inner tubes)
Seatpost: Campagnolo 2 bolt (£25)
Brake levers: Condor (Tektro) (£15 for both)
Brake Callipers: Shimano 600 Arabesque front (£8)
Pedals: MKS (£8)
Chain: KMC (£5)
Cog: Dura Ace lockring (£20 for cog & lockring)Using this from original poster/seller as nothing much has changed "Frame & forks are showing plenty of ‘character’ through use / wear over the years, I think this is probably the original paintwork - it is not perfect, there are lots of small marks / scratches, small signs of rust & paint touch-ups. However, it is all cosmetic, there are no dents, cracks or any structural damage. Nice detailed lugwork with handpainted linings. At some point it has had clamp-on downtube shifters which have left a mark."

Cheers @soapbear30! The cap is pending collection, but the pedals and stem are still available :)

Hello! I'm after a mixte that's around 49-52 cm. I have searched gumtree, eBay and here, but hoping this forum will prove a gem once again :)
I've got my eye on a Kona, or Soma, but really would love any chromoly kinda frame and fork (Mercier, Mercian, Claud Butler or any other brand I've missed out or aware of). Must have eyelets and holes on frame for rack and mudguards
Ideally a dark colour, but if not then something plain (with just the brand, no extra frills)
I might be a bit too specific, but feeling hopeful...
Thanks!
Thanks so much for all the feedback!
My main concern was the "top tube" which I checked with the seller and is 19.5". The seat tube for me is fine at 21" I believe.
Essentially, I need a more upright position and a slightly more practical cycle. The Mercian offers the speeds and lighweightness that I really like, so was hoping for something similar, but not the fastest bike in town (which the Mercian is, btw ;)). I'd mainly be using it around the city, but with the potential in mind would also really like to use it for touring one day.
I'd not considered the ride being unstable on a mixte...
The other downside is that the bike is in Norwich, but I feel that even with a day trip, the bike is in great condition and I've not found something similar in London (yet!).
I really appreciate all the feedback - thanks all!
