The forks are definitely the matching pair to the frame, same serial numbers on them etc...
What I did find interesting on the Dave Moulten site, it mentions...
"Other older established builders, still clinging to the little or no trail theory, shortened the fork rake but at the same time made the head angle steeper to maintain the trail status quo.
This made for some very squirrelly bikes being built in the 1970s, with 75 and 76 degree head angles and front wheels almost touching the down tube. Shorter chainstays to shorten the rear end of the bike were pretty much universally accepted."
This is what I reckon the problem may be with mine, being a 70s frame, the head tube looks fine but the rake seems quite a bit. As I say ill measure tonight.

Jokers! ;-)
Its the top picture people should be going by for the bike geometry.
The bottom picture was when I just put it together with a random saddle to see what it looked like.
The top picture, the saddle sits far back and a bit higher. Im just over 6ft so the frame isnt too big for me.
stick some risers on it, or just get used to riding it? This thread is a little on the
side, I'm afraid to say...How is this facepalm? so far ive come to the conclusion that the bike being an older frame could probably do with a little more trail from the Dave Moutlon site, invaluable information I think!
I ride another road bike so im used to riding drops. Isn't it all about getting you bike to ride as nicely as you can? Its all fine tuning from here on... ;-)

Hey! all th talk while Ive been away!
They are indeed some Nitto b125's...
I have a geared road as well which handles fine, but is on a newer frame.
I believe it must be a combination of old frame geometry mixed with track low level bars.
Which leaves me with two options:
New forks! nice!
or new handle bars
or a combination of both...
(*edit - three options!)Would be nice to get some lovely carbon forks with less rake!!

Everything is new, checked and double checked...
When I say twitchy I mean the steering seems very light and unstable compared to my mates bike, he thinks the same.
Its ridable, dont get me wrong, but Im wondering if a different bar would change things?
The frame and fork is solid, its not a problem with that or the headset, its more of a geometry problem.
And yes, I'm fairly light, well... 11st...

So, ive had a good read up on this post...
http://www.lfgss.com/thread19152.html
But comparing the angles mentioned, my seat already seems to be placed quite far back and my stem is much longer already.
I rode a mates bike today, he had bull horn bars on so the riding position is much more upright, the ride felt much more stable and easier to corner. He also has 28mm tyres.
My bike as you can see has 23mm tyres and nitto drops, which are not as wide as his drop bars.
Would it be the drop bars which are creating the problem, making the bike feel much less stable? Or maybe the do

Thanks!

Definately, but certainly interesting...
Think this is a repost... Bike looks a little confused but again amazin engineering
Also check out the gearboxed bikes on there...
