Yes. This was 1990. So the victim(s) were probably still alive. Very unfair to exploit them for a rubbish film with pop stars glamourising the Krays, who were both in prison, no doubt enjoying their status. I didn't mind about the Tom Hardy version. I expect everyone involved was dead by then. And at least he can act and made them both look rather unpleasant.

The Substance: quite an achievement by cast and crew. I wonder whether American audiences will engage with the feminist message? I'm not sure many men want to be lectured about how to value the perfect pubescent gusset. I'm reminded of the Sophie Rain saga: a curvy teenager has made $43m on OnlyFans without taking her clothes off. One man has spent over $4m in a year. https://people.com/onlyfans-model-made-43-million-last-year-to-her-it-doesnt-conflict-with-christian-values-exclusive-8758383

I know many of you have binned your twitter account, but they're excellent value right now, if you use a browser with an ad blocker. Do a search on Elon Musk. There's a ton of well argued slaughtering of him going on. It's so humiliating you almost feel sorry for him. We've even got his father saying his mother's family were thrown out of Canada for being Nazis and moved to apartheid South Africa. He daren't block this stuff and he has to pay for you to read it. I find it a pleasant antidote to all the miserable news about every other fucking thing.

He knows his sock puppet(s) have been rumbled so he's moaning that the woke hypocrites won't allow him to have a positive self-image. He's getting very thin-skinned. One of his litter has been going everywhere on his shoulders because everyone was saying he was a terrible parent. Loomer and Bannon are pouring shit on him 24/7. There might be a massive flounce brewing.

Public schools have spent a couple of decades upping their game to appeal to the rich. There's been an arms race to get the best sports facilities, theatres etc. Some have borrowed heavily. There's now a tranche of 'all Steinway' schools. (Every piano is a Steinway.) Fees have gone up from 15.k to 60k in 20 yrs. And that's before the VAT thing. Maybe we'll see some schools in trouble? Presumably no more Russian pupils. Maybe no Chinese either? I assume Xi Ping has clamped down on such disloyalty? https://www.ft.com/content/852bf8c5-302b-44ba-a022-79b8ac4fcb42

There's some hope on twitter that the Russian economy is so dire that Putin and the war can't last much longer. E.g. Jason Jay Smart of Kyiv Post:
"Russia’s Economic Collapse: The Looming End of Putin’s Regime
The Russian economy is imploding, threatening Vladimir Putin’s grip on power. His Keynesian strategy to counter Western sanctions—based on subsidized spending and artificially low interest rates—has backfired catastrophically, plunging the country into a boom-and-bust cycle now entering its most devastating phase.
The housing market, propped up by state-subsidized mortgages at rates as low as 7% (despite real inflation estimated at 27% by Dr. Steve Hanke), is collapsing. Mortgage debt has surged to over 40% of bank lending portfolios, while household debt is at a record 22% of GDP. Once dominating housing transactions, mortgages now make up only 20% of sales, with 80% being cash purchases. Sellers are slashing prices by up to 50%, and non-performing loans are soaring, threatening to sink regional banks, which hold 40% of the market. Developers, crippled by overbuilding during the boom, are defaulting on bonds, leading to widespread losses across the construction sector.
The ripple effects are devastating. The Russian stock market has seen all sectors decline sharply, with Gazprom down 16.7%, Ozon 23.7%, and RUSAL 23.8% in just one month. Inflation has spiraled out of control, forcing the cost of potatoes to rise by 80% this year alone, with car prices expected to jump 20% after New Year’s. The ruble has lost over 10% of its value three times in a single month, reflecting deep structural weaknesses. Russia’s national budget, calculated on oil prices of $72 per barrel, faces severe strain as global production rises and prices fall. Experts predict the ruble may require a devaluation of 22-35% to sustain government spending.
International support is absent. China, dealing with its own economic woes—including an 18% youth unemployment rate and a real estate debt crisis—has limited capacity to assist Russia. Furthermore, China conducts > 60% of its trade with the U.S. and Europe versus around 2% with Russia and is unlikely to risk sanctions for a marginal ally.
Public dissatisfaction is growing as the economy crumbles. Living costs are skyrocketing, wages are stagnant, and layoffs are widespread. In 2024, over 130,000 jobs were cut in 457 companies, including global tech giants like Tesla, Amazon, and Google. The regime’s promise of economic stability is collapsing, and so is Putin’s political contract with his people.
Historically, economic collapse has toppled autocrats, and Russia’s current trajectory mirrors these patterns. Putin’s inability to stabilize the economy or shield ordinary Russians from hardship is eroding his legitimacy among both the public and the elites. With rising discontent, fractured loyalty from oligarchs, and economic freefall, Russia is on the brink of political upheaval. The collapse of Putin’s regime may no longer be a distant prospect—it is rapidly becoming an imminent reality."

Loomer is wild. Just a roaming hand grenade. She would definitely fuck herself in the face if Trump asked her to. https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/power/2024/05/02/laura-loomer-donald-trump/

The filthy rich are everywhere, spending money like water. Look at the guy who spent $4.7m in one year on the OnlyFans of a teenage girl. https://www.tiktok.com/@finitetv/video/7453367848099024174

Nobody's suggesting hydraulic failure in the 20 page pprune thread about the S. Korea crash. The gear could have been lowered manually but the crew didn't begin to attempt it. This vid by a 737 pilot is instructive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1r8dl4RqMw&t=1s
There's a new vid of the landing https://streamable.com/r5p6pu
Some of the sensible pilots at pprune have advanced a theory that one engine was out and the other one was out or nearly out. If that's what happened the pilots wouldn't want to lose altitude by dropping flaps and gear until they were certain they'd reach the runway. But at the crucial moment they were overwhelmed and didn't do it.

Bizarre 737 crash in South Korea. Everyone dead except for 2 with serious injuries. It's all on video. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12-29/passenger-plane-crashes-at-muan-airport-in-south-korea/104769164
As usual the pprune forum is the place to go for informed analysis by pilots https://www.pprune.org/accidents-close-calls/663324-jeju-737-800-crash-muan-airport-south-korea.html The short version is that the aircraft had a bird strike in one engine, attempted to land but did a go-around, then a 2nd attempt and landed quite fast but without gear or flaps down or thrust reversers. The aircraft slid almost the full length of the runway and didn't shed much speed. The consensus is that something calamitous must have been happening on the flight deck.

Revenge, 2017, same director as The Substance. I found it more gripping. I usually avoid rape-revenge films but in this one the rape wasn't shown.
