The lacquer has been removed with some sort of grit paper, not super course as I didn't notice it until I stripped the bike but certainly not for your Sunday best.

The black one is starting to blue as they tend to do.

You can buy the axles for this. Some MTB brand used to sell them, forgot which though. What front hub do you currently have?

Alternatively, you could just get a new hub. Lots of allen key ones available.

i've got a marin with 5 sided allen sockets to hold the wheels on

if anyone does ned a front wheel, i've got one.
mavic rim, campag gran sport hub and skewer.
runs nice and true, bearings fine.
wear to braking surface though, but would be ok for pub bike or whatever....tenner?

I have one you can have, if it's the same size, measures about 7mm from point to the opposite flat side of the pentagon. Pretty sure this is the right size, this was off a security skewer.

got a used MTB and the seatpost and wheels are held in by 5 side allen keys!
using pliers will undo them, but i'd rather not carry pliers with me or guarantee that they would be done up tight enough.

have an athlon 1.99 rated at 2.5ghz....would have to check the spec tomorrow - pc at home, me at work. could even throw in a keyboard and mouse if you need one.
i do know it has XP home installed, free usb ports.

pc tower. athlon xp+ processor 1.999 ghz but rated at 2.5ghz (don't know why athlon processors are like this)
768 mhz ram, dvd / cd writer
xp home edition..can't remember what other software is loaded onto it (but have a copy of office 2003)
no monitor, but may be able to find a mouse and keyboard if you're desperate.
