i treated myself to a session at Newport Velodrome for my birthday and it was the most fun i've had ever. The coach was totally awesome as he saw me watching eagerly and then came over and told me to get on the track and I was quite nervous and all 'errrrr I haven't had an induction' to which he replied 'go get a bike'. woo!
He then proceeded to order the 12 men on their swish track bikes up above the blue so that 'the lady' could ride around on the black for a bit (cringe) and despite the fact that I was totally bottling it up at the top corners- by the end of the sessiowe were whizzing around in a group which was a laugh. I'm sure I was pretty terrible at it but it was amazing fun!
If anyone is heading up newport way to go to the velodrome anytime soon....can i have a lift please? :D

id rather look like a twat than get smashed up and be scarred for life or dead
i've seen quite a few cyclists out at night with those little frog lights on as their lights which are just pointless - and no high viz, wearing dark clothing and i couldn't really see them..........nevermind if i had full-beam headlights to light the road ahead of me.......
if we're talking fast car coming around a corner then i'm pretty sure high-viz is going to spark a quicker reaction out of them than say, a little red light the size of a pin blinking mid-air behind...oh wait...thats a cyclist....shit...so yeah. i'd go for loservest over roadkill any day.

I saw some guy the other day nearly get taken out by a super fast dude on a road bike
the man in question was riding the strangest motorised bike I have ever seen. Smaller wheels than a brompton, and he was wearing massive goggles, looked a bit like Where's Wally..... he would spin like crazy for a bit and then just cruise along and the longest legs ever - he was cycling all over the shop, I was scared to overtake him for a bit after seeing him rub elbows with the guy on the racer - was pretty funny to watch from afar, mind.

outside st thomas's hospital - no bike racks to be seen anywhere in the vicinity of the A&E entrance, and shit loads of bikes locked to every railing available with signs on saying not to....
because if you just found out your friend was in an accident, you are really going to want to walk all the way to the back end of the building to find somewhere to put it where it won't get taken away right? doh.

popped in on my way home tonight to see gordon- nothing like being woken up by a complete random stranger when you've just fractured your face and are dosed up on pk's....
I can report that he's looking better than you would expect someone to look after they hugged a van!
heal up soon yo and please get in touch if you need anything - pass that way all the time x

yup. clipped in for the first time, and had a very 'Timmmmmmberrrrr!' moment! Couldn't unclip as i also practically snapped my ankle in half trying to get out of the pedals mid-fall, so was lying on the ground hugging my bike, trying to holler loud enough to get my housemate and a potential new housemate to come and rescue me.
haven't used spd's again because my ankle now still hurts when trying to twist out so not only did I make a complete fool of myself but I managed to ruin my left ankle in the process. woo. :P

False.
Any one who is a victim of a crime can request any CCTV footage that may have seen it, also you can request a copy of any CCTV footage which includes your face to the point that you are recognizable, the company giving it to you should black out any other faces in the clip.
the problem is a lot of cameras are dummys, those that are not are low quality and get taped over all the time.
yeah you can request it
you have to pay a tenner for it, mind....which I wonder about as it means you are paying the state to receive footage of yourself? hmm. don't quite understand that, but 'administrative costs' yadda yadda......off-topic, there was a film made entirely out of cctv footage by artist manu luksch
interesting concept i thought..... -
couldn't stop worrying about this so i phoned the Met and asked about this incident and the lady in the control room searched all incidents on that day and couldn't find any involving a cyclist in that area on that morning - other than a motorcyclist on New rd/commercial (not fatal)
will let you know if I find any info.

Aparently Boris has been sending educational DVDs out to freight operators about taking appropriate care for cycles, who thinks that one is making a difference?
that's about as useful as a fart in a jar
maybe he can send some educational DVD's to the families of the deceased and injured explaining to them why he is a twat.
