I also fear that this will cause more people to drive off and leave the scene of accidents.
I believe we should take the rage out of road use and make people more polite to each other. But have no idea how, I try by say good morning and hello to people and trying to have a smile for everyone. But people think I am a loon.
Excellent! It really helps to not behave like a colossal bell-end on the road. You are a massive loon though.
Your point about encouraging drive-offs though - you could say that about car insurance. It's not a reason not to have it.
The point is that when you drive recklessly (and we've all been guilty of this) I bet you the thought of your insurance premium pops into your head at some point.
Same thing with Strict Liability - it raises awareness in the mind of the driver. Nothing like a bit of fiscal outlay to focus thoughts.

I was really hoping to find 'winner' here but alas no.

Yep, that's why reducing bit depth won't really impact on the size of the project, the files are kept on the HD and not in RAM and are (pre) loaded when needed.
Reducing Bit Depth on newer versions will recalculate maximum project size according to the system's capabilities, and more RAM is an amazingly good way to make typing abusive forum posts that much smoother.
However, Wayne is version 3 of GB, and therefore Tynan wins. Massively.
And Grooves is totally right as well. That's the difference between some cheapo M-Audio interface, and an Apogee Duet, or something TC Electronics.

£40

I have seen these on sale for £29 in Maplins stores.
Yeah and what software do they come with?
Audacity. Freeware. It's alright mind, but you'll still have to chop up your tracks in the same way. Why spend 29 squid when you can spend, well, fuck all really...

I doubt his problem is hard disk space !?
Well I didn't actually say HD space, I meant RAM. But even so, since you bring it up: Garageband running on a Mac (just like Logic and many other apps) allocates free HD space to process information. This is exactly why if you fill up the HD of a Mac you'll notice it'll slow down a shit load.
And as for 24 vs. 16 - yeah, but in my experience you don't need 24bit power if you don't have it. 16bit is still Audio CD standard.

Yeah totally. Depending on your mac you can use the line in to run a signal from the amp into Garageband. You need a phono to minijack (3.5mm) cable.
The pain in the ass with this, and most methods of vinyl capture, is that unless you can be bothered to separate the individual tracks on the vinyl into new Garageband 'projects' then you get one side of a record per project.
I actually quite like this, since it means you end up with mp3's that are 20/30 minutes long, just like listening to the reeeeeel thing.

Reet. Get into the Garageband Prefs (Command + ,) and check the advanced tab. There should be an Audio Resolution tab. Trust me, you don't need it on Best. If you change the dropdown menu to 'Good' that might well allow your system to record longer. The difference between 24bit and 16bit recording is so minimal that for a podcast you're never gonna notice it.

Again, straight from Oliver's RoadPeace link:
The basic principle of "innocent until proven guilty" applies to criminal prosecution, not civil compensation. Stricter liability does not affect criminal prosecution charging standards. And this isn’t about ‘driver persecution’ - it’s the driver’s insurance company that will pay out, not the driver themselves.

From Oliver's link on the first page:
At present, our civil compensation system for personal injury is fault based. Thus in a collision, driver error must be proven. Because the default assumption is that the driver has not contributed to the crash, their insurance company is not automatically liable for compensation. Often what will follow is a lengthy and stressful fight for compensation by the victim.
It might seem like a remote possibility, but any of us on the forum, or anywhere else for that matter, may one day be in the situation above.
By lobbying for a change to the law we are:
- Helping protect cyclists
- Creating a shift in culture, whereby cyclists are viewed as having rights on the road
- Bringing the media's attention to the matter in a positive light.
With respect to your points Lynx, the more we bang on about hand guns and tea cosies the less gets done.
