ah - I might have been talking bollocks there - see
[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raleigh_Bicycle_Company[/ame]"Third Symbol is the year of manufacture, e.g. 4-9 would be 1974-1979, 0-3 would be 1980-83, and then the sequence repeats. Thus, 'WH4003203' would be the 3203rd frame built at Worksop in June 1974. In 1982, when Worksop production was moved to Nottingham, the division continued to produce frames with the 'W' designation."

Any Raleigh-afficionados recognise her? Frame number is W 8001386 if that helps.
hmm,interesting -
IIRC - 'W' prefix means built in the old Carlton factory at Worksop; and I think the '8' signifies 1978. Wasn't aware of anything Raleigh-badged coming out of Worksop then though, could yours originally have been a Carlton (or Sun or Triumph)?--
