Thanks all for the input, i will just be very anal then. At least its good to know theres no report of the internal gear failing.
Just to be sure, the cog is installed dished inward, right? The other way round and it interferes with the "derailleur".The chain is a 3/32" at similar tension to my fixed.

So I'm just wondering if anyone here has experience with Alfine 8 hubs slipping. Mine is a new alfine 8 sg-s501 from Planet X paired with shimano rapid fire shifter, running a 18T alfine cog and a FSA Gimondi chainset with 39T FSA chainring.
The problem is whenever I get out of the saddle the drivetrain would often "slip", as if the somewhere along the drivetrain is disengaged for a split second and before re-engaging. It happens with at least the middle gears (4, 5, 6), while I haven't tested others. As far as I can tell it stays on the same gear after skipping. Shifting has been smooth.
I made sure the yellow marks were aligned. I also tried to move the indexing both ways, turning the cable shell 2 notches each way but the slipping worsened though just slightly.
Sometimes there is clicking noise when the bike is pushed backwards, if that helps. Otherwise the gear runs smooth.
Is there anything I have missed? As everybody says hub gears including alfine are reliable and hussle-free, it seems unlikely that it is a defective item that is problematic even when new? Thanks for any thoughts!

Hi, so got a pair of these http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/RIGIKEN29TD/gipiemme_kenya_29er__disc_rim
Planning to lace them 3-cross to Shimano M765 XT Disc Front Hub Centre Lock 32 Hole and Shimano Alfine 8 Spd Disk Hub 135mm / 32h,
Searched the internet for the ERD with no success. Would appreciate any input. Thanks -
So I'm looking for a rim to go with the Alfine 8 hub (32H, black, disc brake) on the tour/cross project on a Pompetamine.
The Mavic XM317 Disc (29er version) seems quite good in terms of weight and external width (23.5). The internal width of the "new profile" is 19mm.
While the officially recommended tyre width is 1.5"-2.3", it seems that with a width close to the Velocity A23 - would it also fit street tyres of down to 28mm, or even 25mm?
Any input is much appreciated~ -
the speakers are nice, gotta drive them with this:

Decided to build another tourer/cross bike after the old kinesis 5T was stolen. Thought this might be a sign for me to go hub gear and disc brake. Pompetamine's seatstays are just quirky.
Alfine 8 seems to have more positive reviews than Sturmey Archer. Also flat bar for shorter reach, better control and cheaper brakes and shifter. -

Looking to change the front braking of my Kinesis 5T CX/tourer into disc braking, for better feel and easy maintenance etc.
Appreciate if someone have a spare lying around. Just the usual 700c 1-1/8" steerer, bit of weight and shortish steerer will do, but think I'll give canti studs a pass.. Evans has Charge Whisk at £49.99 but I'm aiming at an even cheaper option. Thanks! -

the ride was just 100km too long for me, almost cracked from Devil's Dyke to checkpoint 3, thanks KT Bee (and the gang of 4 men) for pulling at the front in the headwind. finished minutes before the Roehampton cafe closes, complete knackered.
expecting to starting appreciating the randonneur aspect of audax next time. -

At the junction with Gray's Inn Road, eastbound, saw a cyclist on the ground about car's length in front of the stopping line. A silver Mercedes (S class?) was stopped halfway between the two lane, pointing slightly to the left.
The cyclist got up with a bleeding nose and confronted the driver, dripping blood all over the tarmac. Both the driver (white middle-aged man) and the passenger (white middle-aged woman) was being very aggressive and kept yelling at the cyclist. Pedestrians took photos of the driver and the car, and after a while he drove off with blood stain on the driver's door.
Someone dialed 999 and gave the description of the driver and car. The hairdresser "Glamour House" across the road asked the injured cyclist to go in and rest while waiting for the ambulance. He was wearing a helmet and had a walkie talkie on his messenger bag. He was shocked and confused but remembered today's date. Witness says he was punched so I guess if there was a crash it wasn't too bad.
While I didn't see how it happened, seconds earlier I saw the same Mercedes speeding past and deliberately cut off the cyclist in front of me, then throwing verbal abuse through open windows before the cyclist could say anything. The cyclist who was cut off collected several witness' contacts and waited for the ambulance/police to come.

So i have got these flip clocks before finding out that they are "slave clocks", meaning there's no clock movement inside; a master clock (or "impulser") is needed to signal the flip every minute.
Did some ebaying and froogling to no avail.
Would it be possible to DIY with no electronics knowledge? Thanks~
