Hi, I got an old Raleigh Frame you can have; the top tube length is 56cm - would fit someone about 5ft 10" (178cm).

The frame is abroad unfortunately, otherwise I would have gone to get it.
He wanted to use the paypal gift option because of less fees - I didn't know there was more/less security with different selling options.
I think he is established but I thought I'd be going against protocol by naming him like this...

Hi, let's say we have two frames with top tube lengths of 56cm and 58cm respectively.
That doesn't necessarily mean that the larger frame will only be 2cm longer along the top tube, does it, as the seat tube will be longer too, which probably gives a resultant increase of more than 2cm along the top tube compared to the 56cm frame, right?
I'm just wondering if a 58cm top tube frame may be a bit too large for me.
Thoughts? Thx.

Hi, I recently watched that video of Bob's Garage where the guy works out chainline by doing lots of measurements.
Surely it's just as effective to look at the chain on the rear cog and observe the cog's teeth as the chain goes round. On the conversion I'm doing it's possible to see that chainline is out by 1-2mm - not much - but probably enough to warrant a spacer on the rear hub.

Yes, that's all commonsensical, but if the front of a truck is 1.5m away from you, and the truck continues driving in a straight line, then instinct and memory tells you all is well...until someone drives a vehicle with variable widths like here.
This is exactly the sort of situation that the ladies get killed in because of their lesser spatial awareness.

I was cycling along the Finchley Road today going north - nr the O2 centre. I got to the lights, went over to the left, and was next to a truck(Category C truck type i.e. not the 40ft HGV but the smaller one) towing a caravan (the extra long type rock bands usually travel around in). So, the overall length is considerably more than an HGV with a 40ft container(legality?).
Anyway, as we pull away from the lights (3 lane road), I notice there is a newly placed bollard ahead of me, which blocks off the left hand lane > the bollard continues further along for some metres blocking all access to that lane > as I approach the bollard I end up moving nearer to the truck > at this moment I'm alongside the truck and I'm thinking this is OK cos' there's enough space between us > however, as the truck begins to go past me, the attached caravan begins to come past, which nearly takes me out because it is wider than the truck > as I left the lights and drew alongside the truck, I obviously wasn't aware of this. I was lucky because I realised just in time but it was horribly, horribly close.
I always hate moments like this because it seriously challenges my choice to cycle. I would find it very difficult to not cycle but facing death or paraplegia is hardly a choice. Public transport??
