I can’t quite believe it, but a Coppi that I bought off here last November is now up and running. I didn’t have a lot of time to work on it given the demands of a baby and house renovations took priority over dicking around with bikes and when I did work on it, it presented a lot of problems. However, after a lot of swearing and heinous chemicals it is finally rolling. It’s one of the Columbus Genius frames with mostly Campag Chorus bits. I had one of these up til about 6 years ago, when I concertina’d it in a crash with a Ford Escort. I’ve been looking for a replacement ever since, and finally found a frame and forks separately which had both been resprayed dodgy colours, so I got them restored to the right palette, then of course a full bike came up at a good price.
However, what the seller didn’t say/didn’t know was that the 30cm seatpost and the stem were fused in the frame. With the seatpost, as well as the usual basic tactics I tried Plusgas, a slide hammer, ammonia and an 18” monkey wrench. I’d never tried the slide hammer approach and I don’t think it was at all effective despite some youtube videos endorsing it as an approach. It was probably the combination of the ammonia and the wrench that did the trick. Obviously I was not giving it all the beans with the wrench so as not to damage the tubing.
The stem was more of a bugger in some ways and easier in others. It was an quill to ahead adapter so it wasn’t possible, nor indeed really desirable, to exert any twisting force, so I just sawed off most of what protruded above the steerer tube and stuck the forks upside down in a jar of strong caustic soda solution. That was fun and the reaction looks like this:

I covered the painted sections of the forks to avoid getting chemicals splashing directly on to the paint. In terms of the actual build, I cant say I have changed a lot from how it was when I got it since my main efforts have been in getting stuck bits unstuck and then tuning everything up but I did replace the bars with some NOS Cinellis and put on a quill stem to restore a look more in keeping with the bike’s age. I’ll get a more respectable seatpost in due course. The rest of it is fine as is and the colour-matched USPS seat is a nice touch.

Full marks to the self-sacrificing bloke on a mtb who was going a little over a sensible pace on the pavement near Turnpike Lane station yesterday: upon being faced by me, my gf, her brother and our respective kids he heroically stacked it into a parked car and came to rest at our feet in a very sheepish heap. Luckily everyone found it amusing.

I was in the flow of traffic on Penton Street crossing Pentonville Road onto Claremont Square this morning and almost got taken out by a car turning right onto Pentonville Road from the opposite direction, being as he was a bit too fucking eager to get on his way. While I would normally be aiming to have a road position which allowed a better line of sight to oncoming vehicles when crossing a junction, at the very least riding primary, due to the nature of the traffic in the approach to the junction I had made the schoolboy error of using the cycle lane which meant that this chump did not have such a good line of sight and naturally assumed that not being able to see meant ok to proceed. I'm sure most people are aware of this hazard, but let this serve as a reminder.

Saw a couple of young kids on a scooter cautiously jumping the lights at the Grays Inn Road / Clerkenwell Road junction last night, weaving around peds at a reasonable speed. Despite the obvious variety of criminal offences involved, it was a pleasant change from other scooter arseholery encountered on my commute, the most recent being some scrote who undertook me at speed while I was signalling left and starting to turn, whacking my arm and then threatening further violence when I described him as being one of the standard anatomical parts. Since I started going through Barnsbury I seem to be seeing a lot more scooter related nonsense, but it may just be the general trend at work.

I bought this a while back, but it’s not quite right for my purposes as well as being a tad too small.
It is in overall good condition. There are a few paint chips here and there, but nothing significant and there is no damage to note.
The spec is as follows:
7005 frame with Blackstorm carbon fork
Campagnolo Veloce 10 groupset, 170mm cranks, 53/39 chain rings , power torque cranks, 13-26 cassette
Campagnolo Khamsin wheel set, both true, some wear to the rims, but lots of life left.
ITM bars and stem
Wingflex saddle
New KMC chain
New Deda bar tape
New Campagnolo cable set throughout
Bottle cage
I can supply some basic pedals if you need them. The bike is in Harringay N8 and I am generally around evenings and weekends.

Does anyone have any recommendations for places to get photos printed for framing that strike a good balance between quality and price? Cheers
